Unlike all concerts I've heard, Elvis stops the show even before hitting the first note! Seemingly in a bad mood (can't be blamed when stuck in an hotel suite for weeks on end and only coming out at showtime) he is immediately disgruntled with the microphone and makes that known to all.
Who else can get away with that?

Once he gets that off his chest, the Vegas audience are then treated to a great performance. From sounding a little sleepy, he quickly warms up to the audience and delivers strong renditions of the standard late 1975 repertoire - with one notable exception - the audience requested WOODEN HEART. To know that Elvis even remembered this 1960 movie track is comforting, but to actually hear him perform it live in 1975 is remarkable - unrehearsed and unpolished.

The highlights of the concert include excellent versions of TRYIN'TO GET TO YOU, HELP ME MAKE IT THRU THE NIGHT, MYSTERY TRAIN, AND BLUE CHRISTMAS. The CD sound quality is very good and Elvis was on form vocally. One slight drawback is that the front cover features an unflattering picture of Elvis on stage.

I would recommend this show to any fan anyway, but more especially to hear Elvis perform a very rare WOODEN HEART.

FANTASTIC, this CD is on par with any of the live Elvis albums on the market. I'm surprised this has not been released sooner. The only reason I can guess it has taken so long to be released is the slight hiccup in the acetate during the first couple of tracks.
From the first moment when Elvis tells the crowd about the great intro and then informs them someone forgot to switch his mike on, to the last chords of the concert classic 'Cant Help Falling In Love', Elvis swoons the audience with great ballads, pulls at their heart strings with some tear jerkers, rocks them some, and even jokes about. This is a live performance any band in the world would be proud off, but this is what was expected from Elvis every show and he rarely disappointed, if at all.
All the concert classics are there and Elvis has no problem with any of these songs gliding through all the notes with ease.
A must for all music fans.

In December of 1975 Elvis returned for a two week engagement in Las Vegas to compensate for shows he had to cancel in August of the same year. At this time people were questioning his health and if he still had it in him to deliver a good show. Well this Vegas season put all doubt aside and finally we have a complete show from this remarkable period in Elvis' career.
In my opinion, Elvis has never sounded better than he did in December of '75. Just listen to the powerful interpretation of the gospel standard "How great thou art". He sings with a voice so strong and confident that it's hard to realize that he had less than two years left in this world. For the die-hard Elvis fan another obvious highlight on this release is of course the ultra rare live performance of "Wooden heart". It's not great, but it's nice to see Elvis take on the spot requests from the audience. "Help me make it through the night" by Kris Kristofferson is also a song Elvis sings exceptionally well this winter night of '75 during what was to be his second to last Vegas engagement. Just to reiterate, Elvis never held better shows than he did at the end of '75. Sure he was fat and in bad condition physically, but boy he could sing!

We start badly, and it's genuinely sad to say it gets worse.

The impression is meant to be a easy going informal 'jam', but it all sounds just plain lazy. Elvis aborts the first song half way through to joke about the concept of the 'big start' and never really gets started.

Elvis sounds breathlessly, his focus is all over the place and his inclination to resort to yelling is disturbing. "Softly As I Leave You" misses the mark, "Love Me" and "All Shook Up" are lazy and pointless, and "America" is as bad as anything Elvis recorded, portentous and overblown and at times - lets be honest - tuneless!

Why did I buy it? I recently purchased the Memphis gig from '74 and it was great, full of life and power and fun. Where did it go indeed...

So why two stars? "And I love You So" is good, "Wooden Heart" is a bit of fun and he makes a good fist at "Tiger Man" and "Blue Christmas"... god bless him!

I love the FTD concert releases but I also think it is fair to say that they aren't always the most mindblowing experience. I don't pretend to be an Elvis expert; simple a fan. When I bought this cd I wasn't expecting a great deal but my was I surprised! If anybody needs evidence that Elvis was great in the later years listen to this. Here we have a raw live concert dripping with energy and excitement. The sound quality is as you might expect from the source, but the mix is fantastio; percussive, beaty and bassy (bassy???). Compared to Aloha and The Garden (both great polished shows) this is the Menphis Flash back in action. Buy this album at your own risk, you'll be exhausted by the end of Polk Salad Annie.

This Concert is a very hard concert to judge , in most of the songs elvis doesnt rly put alot of energy in and sings them lazy but wen he sings how great thou art his voice jus truly bursts out, he sings the song so powerful, best version of the song av ever heard, i think elvis sang lazy so he culd build his voice up for this one song, i gave it 5 stars onli cause of this Song, its the song thats brilliant in this concert and its worth buying the whole cd jus for that 1 song i think, but also the song called trying to get to you was also a very powerful and good version but the rest werent but id still get this cd for the version of how great thou art
