Fantastic, yummy recipes which are easy to use. No fancy ingredients that are costly/or take ages to prepare. Have tried 5 so far and they have gone down a treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous 17 May 2005
By A Customer
At last, the book I have been waiting for for years. Essentially because it is packed full of great "all in one" recipes for children - which will also feed the whole family. Toad in the Hole, Moussaka (with potatoes, not aubergine), pasta with meatballs, fish pie, fishcakes, apple crumble, marbled sponge pudding - it will keep me going for months. But it is not just a recipe book. I would say this is essential reading for anyone who is involved in trying to change their school dinners. About 2/5 of the book is prose, with some food/nutrition facts, but much about how she instigated change in her own school, including how they incorporated food education into the curriculum for the various age groups.
If you are cooking for your children - fab book. If you are trying, in any capacity, to bring about change in a school kitchen - absolutely essential, and here are all the recipes for 96 I suspect you will ever need!

This book is far and away the greatest book for those who are trying to manage a family budget but still want their family to eat healthily.I've been bought so many "cook" books in the past only to find that when I'm in the supermarket the combined price of ingredients that I may use only once makes the meal bad value and makes me reach for the easier and cheaper ready prepared option. These recipes are just what I've been looking for.Simple, clear, healthy and tasty and more importantly....Easy!! I'm no cook but this book has inspired me to think about my food and try lots of things from scratch.Jeanette is an inspiration to us all.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most inspiring read - 5 stars plus 7 May 2005
As a sister Dinner Lady and cook for a small primary school in Essex, I found myself in the same boat as Jeanette last year. One year on and this book has confirmed that we have done the right thing and given me numerous ideas to forge ahead. The recipes are excellent and are given for 4 or 96 (school quantities). I try them out at home on my family and if it gets the thumbs up it goes on the school's menu. This is the lady who first alerted Jamie Oliver to the state of the nation's school dinners!
Truly an excellent read and a most inspirational book.

This is a super cookbook and not just for children. The quick and easy recipes promote healthy eating for everyone. Apart from the recipes there are some lovely illustrations done by the children from the school and some great photos of the kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definetly one for regular use 6 July 2005
As a busy family of 5 with 3 demanding and fussy kids and an equally fussy husband I can assure you that this book and the receipes in it are going to satisfy everyone.
I wish this book had been around 14 years ago when we had our eldest son, it would have saved me a lot of hassle.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice and easy 25 April 2005
i've always tried to eat healthly but after watching jamie olivers programme i decided to push myself futher - especially with the kids. so i brought "The dinner lady". Full of information and some really nice and easy to cook reciepes.
Do try the Lemon chicken- so much nicer than buying the packet lemon sauces.
My daughter has started to love to cook with me now too.
Another book for the more adventourous is Mary Berrys Complete Cook Book - they look fancy but VERY easy to follow - TRY IT
