One of the best Dimsie stories,

Rosamund Garth finds herself in the strange position of having to share her school with her wildcat niece Hilary. In disgrace at home Hilary has been sent to the Jane Willard foundation school in order to make her settle down. However, it falls to Dimsie, the newly appointed junior prefect, to tackle the difficult youngster. Most of the senior girls are working hard for an important examination and to so the usual crowd are too preoccupied when a suspected ghost begins to cause havoc with the fears of the younger girls. In the end it is Dimsie who gets to the root of the problem and uses Hilary's trust to overcome all sorts of obstacles.However, a dangerous accident makes it seem like our young heroine will pay too high a price for good her heart and her dutiful nature. This is an interesting book in the series because in it Dimsie makes a plausible move from her junior years to the responsibility of prefecture without losing any of the energy,charm and determination that makes her such a favourite with all of Dorita Fairlie Bruce's readers.

Dimsie Among the Prefects was one of the first School stories I ever read. I was captivated by it, the school still seemed so fresh and real even to the modern child I was. Dimsie is funny, fresh and heartwarming and wonderful read with lively and amusing characters.
