A delightful collection of understated songs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dimbaya (Audio CD)
Dimbaya is a delightful collection of understated songs that have a personal, sometimes plaintive feel. The songs are led by Cissoko's delicate kora playing (here the West African instrument has a luminous harp like tone) and strong voice. The album is sensitively produced. The revelation for this particular (uneducated!) listener is the contemplative cast of the songs and the beauty of the kora sound which, if it is something you have not experienced before, is a treat you have in store.Really I have no criticism of this album. It is perhaps a moot point whether it would be even better with a little more variety of tone between the songs. Personally though I would strongly recommend it - I can guarantee that full enjoyment requires no particular affiliation to world music!
