As a fan of the comics, I loved the transition to video. All the regulars are there: Dilbert, Alice, Wally, Pointy-Haired-Boss, Dogbert, Catbert, Ratbert, Asok, Loud Howard, Bob the Dinosaur, the Garbage man... even the Elbonians make an appearance.

Fresh and different from the comics, yet remaining faithful, the gags come thick and fast. While not always laugh out loud humour, the realisation that it isn't that different from real life brings a smile to your face.

The chracters are well voiced too, particularly Dogbert, who is more cunning and funnier than in the strips.

This is only the first series, and as a UK fan, I'd love to see the second series on DVD over here.

Very little in the way of extras: There is a character focus, that plays clips of a particular character's more humourous moments, plus the ability to jump straight to a programme, but that's about it, I'm afraid.

Despite that, it's a quality program that you'll come back to again and again...

I've been a fan of Dilbert since 1990, and although the Dilbert cartoon series has been shown on Sky, I don't have a satellite system so have had to wait a while to find out how well the TV adaptation was done.

The answer is 'very well'.

Fans of the Dilbert comic strip will find nearly all the regulars here: Dilbert and Dogbert, of course, Alice, Wally, the Boss and the occasional appearance from Ratbert and Asok the intern (fans of Catbert will be disappointed, as he doesn't appear). We are also introduced to Loud Howard, who was only a bit-part character in the strip.

It's obvious that Scott Adams had a great deal of input into the animation, since the characters have the same looks and 'mannerisms' as their comic-strip counterparts. The animation is computer-generated and of very good quality - the style will be familiar to fans of 'Futurama' (side note: Billy West, the voice of Fry in Futurama, provides some of the voices, and Tress McNielle from 'The Simpsons' also lends her vocal talents)

The DVD contains four episodes from what I think are the first series and are just as surreal as some of the comic strips and if, like me, you actually *are* an engineer, you'll find yourself relating to a lot of the things you'll see. Best of all, it's genuinely 'laugh out loud' funny in parts (eg. the voice-activated shower scene in the first episode)

DVD extras are lacking, but since I view a lot of 'extras' as useless padding I don't find this to be an issue. Basically, you get a 'character gallery' which shows a sequence of each character's best bits - pretty pointless, even by my lax standards.

Even so, you get 84 minutes of Dilbert and a fair few belly laughs to boot. If you like the comic strip, you'll like this. Now, can we have series 2 on DVD ... please?

Always hard to animate a cartoon strip successfullly, but...
...Dilbert works for me. The voices took a couple of episodes to get used to (they didn't quite match the ones in my head from reading the cartoons) but now they fit well in my... Read more

Good, but not excellent
The only bad thing I have to say about this video is that it contains only 2 episodes, each with only about 18 minutes of action, so the whole thing is a little too short. Read more

As clever as Python, as Funny as Simpsons
Without a doubt the greatest adaption of a comic strip to a cartoon. It's funny, and clever. I felt compelled to write this as there was a review which called this show poor. Read more
