A happy first choice of an Indian musical. The music is memorable with interesting harmonies, the dancing is a great combination of movement and brilliant colour with subtle rhythms, a feeling of wellbeing and vigorous life is generated as viewing proceeds. All this is threaded together around a love story narrative. Altogether viewing was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and I have returned to it several times and been exhilarated each time. Although I was dependent on English subtitles this was not a problem. Some insights into Indian culture were a bonus to sheer entertainment. Recommended.

The basic plotline is that Pooja (Madhuri Dixit)believes in true love, love which will miraculously appear, and that she will know it when it comes. Nisha (Karisma Kapoor) is already in love with her best friend, and Sharukh Khan as (I've forgotten!) doesn't believe in love or marriage at all. You can probably guess the rest.
It was really good, my only criticism would be that it is - well, what it is. A bollywood movie. As such I felt that it didn't have as much charm as I would have hoped. It has some lovely moments, Karisma Kapoor's speech by the lake for instance, and the dance competition. Its a fun movie to watch, but it didn't have that extra spark, which is why I give only 4 stars. But its worth having for all that.
