Modern Bollywood at its best!, 19 Aug 2003
By A Customer
Dil Chahta Hai is most definitely worth seeing countless times. It boasts a riveting cast and a seamless script and I would say that it is definitely the first Bollywood film to pave the way to "Contemporary Modern" in the Hindi film sense. A story of 3 friends encountering love in their own different ways may sound terribly cliché, however this film has the viewer enchanted right from the beginning. It is best suited for a younger audience, this film still retains a little of the Bollywood cheese that is essential for viewing pleasure and in my opinion it does what K3G and Mujse Dosti Karoge tried to do without success, it holds the audiences attention throughout. If you're going to make a hip, new and contemporary movie, this is definitely the way to do it.

Great Film, 14 Feb 2003
befire i watched this movie, i thought it was going to be another silly old bollywood film with almost no story. however, when i began to watch the movie, i was suprised at how different the movie was to other bollywood films i had seen. the story of this movie is simply about the way in which three friends deal with relationship, friendship and other normal day issues. i was amazed at how well the movie had been put together. it was really 'moving' and you just wanted to watch it to the end. aamir khan was brilliant as usual with his performance. his funniest scene was when he tried to ask preeti zinta to dance, however didn't realise that she was engaged to someone else, and when he did, all they show is him with an ice pack the next morning, which was really hilarious. the only thing which i found slightly annoying, was the way in which he proposes to the woman he loves. in my opinion, it is too fairy tale like. saif ali khan was suprisingly better than i was expecting. he portrayed his character perfectly, (since in the trailer it looked as if he had nothing to do with the film). lastly, akshay khanna was an excellent supporting actor. he is brilliant as the one quiet friend. the way in which he pleasures the small things in life is wonderful. he is perfect for this role. it's no surprise he won an award for best supporting actor (at least i think it was him). the only complaint i have is of the special features. there are none. the only thing they had was the trailer, which is short. they could have the making of the film, or something else like that. at least have the premiere of the film! all in all, if you want to buy this film because you like the movie, then by all means buy it. if you're buying it for the special features, then, unfortunately, your wasting your time.

The stories and movies to which a person best relates, often become their most cherished. Remember that adage, because the day you find a romantic film as relevant to your life as Dil Chahta Hai, you will also be unable to forget its images, dialogues, performances and story line. Theres something about the rawness and unharnessed energy of newbie directors that helps many of them excel their first round at the helm. It works well because the director has targeted the final product at an intelligent audience, and taken many commendable risks along the way. He knows the bollywood audience in general is sick and tired of all the unreal shenanigans seen ad nauseam in countless hindi love stories over the past few decades. So this one's told with maturity, realistic drama and comic panache. Strongly recommended if you want to find out what India really has to offer !!
