I needed an amp simulator, mainly for home recording, but also for occasional live work where the FX would be useful. I didn't try out loads of pedals in a shop, but I read reviews and checked them out on you tube and based my decision on that.

The RP 155 has great amp models ranging from vintage classics to modern high tech. The effects are high quality from the delays, reverbs, wonderful rotary and vibrato, distortions, compressors etc.

I am not a fan of over processed modern sounds, (yes, I'm an old fart), but if that's what you want the RP 155 has them. The 50 presets cover a huge range of sounds and the excellent USB link allows you to change every aspect of each preset and store it in any location. All models and processors are displayed on one page on the PC screen so you can see exactly what you've got and select or deselect and comprehensively adjust any of the 11 items in the effects chain. Important things like amp gain and reverb depth etc etc can be adjusted quickly on the pedal itself.

I have played guitar for over 40 years (and then some). I use a 40 plus year old Fender valve amp and Les Paul, Strat and Telecaster guitars. I am fussy about the sound of amps. VERY fussy. I go for subtle distorion and FX. I am not easily satisfied.

However, as soon as I plugged in to the RP 155 I loved it. I have recorded several songs on my fairly basic PC studio and I am amazed at how good the guitars sound. It has been easy to set up distinct sounds for the the different guitar parts and I have been inspired by the quality of those sounds. Everytime I finish a part I am really pleased with the result, but really disappointed that I've got to move on to the next part. I just want to keep playing with whatever the current sound is.

I have just dug out my guitar from the loft after 20 years and used the same old practice amp...and it sounds just as dull as 20 years ago. In part this may be technique but I thought I would liven things up, having read review of the 155. I am nowhere near using all of the settings but I am utterly amazed. The effects make me sound far better than I thought I was, certainly the combination of distortion and sustain makes my style sound more fluid and more like a real guitarist. Have just tumbled to the fact that players of 20 years ago were probably using effects pedals or amps with sound variations which make them sound good and I wasn't...not that I'm over-egging my capability, I am a rank amateur but now a very excited one who can't wait to practice more. You can sound more like Gilmore or Satriani (or whatever your tastes are) than you would believe possible and all for under £80 quid...amazing...and the nice thing is the family aren't troubled by my crappy old amp spoiling their peace...I just use the headphone jack. I've yet to try it through the amp. Couple of obvious things...get an extra guitar lead for between pedal and amp, and if you want to share your sounds on headphones get a two or three way splitter cable and you may need a headphone extension cable if your phones don't have a 3.5 or 5 metre lead (choose the latter for more flexibility) Haven't tried any of the interfaces such as USB to PC...will let you know.

This product offers a hell of a lot of features and some great tones for little more cost than a single effects pedal. It comes with 50 pre- loaded models and the capacity to define 50 more. It is relatively simple to program these but it would have been useful if there were a list of the parameters used in the 50 pre-loaded models to give the user some idea of what to tweak.
The main problem however, is in the footswitches. To bypass the unit one needs to depress both switches at the same time, what happens quite often is that the models step up or down to somewhat disastrous effect. in short, fantastic for bedroom players but for gigging go for something like the Boss.

I previously owned an RP55, which was mostly fine, but had no looper function. The RP155 is a huge improvement. It sounds great, comes with a power adapter which solved background noise issues I had with the RP55, is sturdy and its settings are easier to control (sort of). Great buy.

The RP155 has improved the sound my playing in a huge way. Plus it has encouraged me to be a better guitarist. The sounds are just amazing. More sounds than I would ever need and the drum machine is totally fantastic. So many great drum rhythms which I always play along to which serves to improve my playing as I am only an amateur musician but the Digitech RP155 constantly inspires me to be endlessly creative.
The item itself is solidly made, the dials have a nice positive feel & the display is very easy to read. Worth mentioning is the headphone socket. So useful for silent practice and not upsetting the neighbours !!! This is a TOP product !!!

for the money this is an amazing little bit of kit; instructions are a bit bewildering but, as i think someone said, it is quite intuitive and if you mess around with it long enough you realise there are endless variations of effects and hours have passed! well built and does come with mains power thingy....well pleased so 5 stars.
