If like me, you are a complete novice when it comes to using your computer to make videos, this is worth considering. I wanted an easy way to edit a load of my video I have hanging around, and put it onto a dvd, but I wanted to cut down a lot of the bad filming stuff, and there was lots!!

Couldn`t anything at my local adult education centre, so hunted on Amazon and found this, and a dvd called Everyday Home Video Making. The book is good, and it`s aimed at complete begineers, so I found it useful. It works well with the dvd, which is great, sit back and relax and learn. It is easy to follow, and I learnt loads. I use the book for reference, the dvd got me going really quickly, and within a couple of days, I was editing, spliting and even created a youtube movie. A good combination, if in doubt, go for the dvd.

This book is a good starter for beginers, it style is freindly and it expains the basic fundamantals to get going. For those who have just purchased a dv camera this is a must, more experienced users however, will probably not gain much.

A disappointing book which I didn't really find that readable or of much help to me even as a beginner. Too general.

I am fairly technilogicaly savvy and use most technology easily and effortlessly. However, when it comes to digital video I found myself wanting to develop my skills to a greater extent. Having used many of the Dummies books and found them extremely useful and helpful this was the logical book for me to purchase. This book covers probably everything you would need to know about digital video. In fact I agree with a previous reviewer that there is perhaps too much, which is why I have given it 4 stars. I felt that it could be slightly overwhelming at times. Saying that I still feel that this is a very useful book. It covers the steps logically and they are set out clearly so can be followed easily. I feel that I have developed my use of digital video using this book and would therfore highly recommend it for the beginner or intermediate user. I would also recommend you buy this from amazon as it is a very good price

This is a good general guide to creating your own digital video masterpieces without being specific to any one software package. 'For Dummies' is always a complete misnomer, as the books are anything but dumbed down, in some cases being complex and demanding a fair level of competence. This, however, is a fairly easy read.
