I have no complaints about the product itself. It's simple to use and has given me some great tasting fudge, and the case keeps it safe when put away. However, the design is perhaps better suited to testing the core temperature of meat than as a sugar thermometer.
You *have* to hold the probe at all times; in small saucepans, it overbalances and falls out, and in large ones, there's a risk of melting the plastic. This is really problematic when you're trying to hold the pan's handle and stir hot sugar at the same time. I have burned (not seriously) my hand when trying to make toffee thanks to holding the probe over bubbling sugar. Also, it's annoying trying to read the temp. sideways but not impossible.
If this one ever breaks, I would buy a different design (one which hooks over a saucepan's edge) for sugar craft, but as a general purpose kitchen thermometer, this product works just fine.
