Product Description

Product Description

The RockJam 2173 61-Key Keyboard is ideal for those looking for a fun way to learn basic skills and experiment with music. Because it features touch-sensitive keys, this keyboard is great for getting the feel of playing a real piano and allows for more accurate finger control. With a huge range of tones and digital effects, 12 demonstration songs, record and playback feature and 8 panel drums and 61 keyboard-activated drums (one for every key) this keyboard definitely delivers and really is a fully functional, affordable and accessible home keyboard.

128 Sounds & Rhythms To Experiment With
The RockJam 2173 features 100 auto-accompaniment settings and 129 voices to experiment with all of which are easy to access from the large, clear LCD display. This allows you to get just the right tone for your music. The buttons are clearly labelled and well laid out meaning you spend less time fiddling and more time playing.
12 Demo Songs/Record & Playback Feature
Choose from 12 different demo songs to help you get used to creating your own music. Record and play back your playing easily with the real time record and playback feature. This is especially rewarding for those just starting out and allows children to hear the progress they make and play back pieces to parents. Listening to yourself means you can really get to grips with how you need to improve your playing.
Panel Drums & Keyboard Activated Drums
The RockJam 2173 is also a mini drum kit with the 8 included percussion buttons easily accessible from the main panel as well as the 61 keyboard-activated drums (one for every key). This is a great way to experiment in building beats and rhythms for any budding percussionist and with a headphone output socket at the back of the keyboard you can “drum” away without inconveniencing others.

The keyboard also includes Chord Control allowing control of styles by single finger or fingered chords. Aspects of your sound such as Sustain, Vibrato and Transpose can also be modified with ease. This is a great way to gather inspiration and learn about different musical styles.
Learning the keyboard couldn't be easier with practice features such as one-key chords, guide functions and an included music rest.

The RockJam 2173 is the ideal home keyboard for those looking to develop their piano skills. It also has enough scope to provide possibilities for future experimentation and innovation when you're ready to progress further.

I am an experienced keyboard player so my comments are based on the use of many differing keyboards over the years:

Good for 1st time/beginner but, it's limitations may spoil a potential musician's future as the 'feel' from the keys is not good and I question it's potential longevity.

    1. Mains/battery operation makes it easy to transport
    2. It's lightweight, but that also means it's not that strong, especially the keys
    3. Sounds -amateurish but may improve if output through a hi-fi/amp rather than the (not so good quality) built in speakers. There are 128 instrument sounds plus there are 7 preset drum pads (cymbal crash, clapping etc) and the keys can be set to drum so that each of the 61 keys can play a different drum sound so, lots for the new user to play with
    4. There are a number of memories to for your settings so that, if you find sounds/rhythms that you like, it will remember them.
    5. Keys ok but do not respond that well. Although advertised as 'touch sensitive', light touch produces little sound at all. The keys are also a little on the flimsy side
    6. Recording - there is a built-in real-time recorder, however, it's limited to 88 notes only so ok for kid's 1st attempts but not much else
    7. Rhythms quite good. There are lots of them, enough to keep kids amused for hours
    8. Midi out (but no cable)
    9. Great news for parents - Earphone socket built in.
    10. Chord control (play chords with one or two fingers only)
    11. Sync / Fill-in / Intro / Ending to help make you performance more realistic
    12. Vibrato, Sustain and Transpose control

Although I've been quite critical, the buyer does get a lot for their money.

This is an inexpensive standalone keyboard, with all the usual features you would expect. The touch sensitive keys is the main weakness, followed by the fairly limited range of piano sounds. There are too many weird sounds for my taste - but those will probably appeal to children. It is fairly large and heavy with decent volume, but the overall feeling is more toy than instrument. I would check out the Yamaha offerings at around the same price point or a little more

Brought for my grandmother as a combined Mother's Day/birthday present.
Everything works fine except for working on batteries. Not a major problem as it works on the mains. Very happy grandmother = happy me

This is not for the practice learner. This is a toy for a child to play around with.

Firstly the build is poor, such as the LCD display as been stuck on wonky.
Then there are some mad 'design features' like the way you select tones & tunes which is odd to begin with making it impossible to change mid play - but then changes after the number 99 of anything.
Then there are things that just don't work - like the touch sensitive that just puts the keys into a delay from when you push them to when the sound comes out.

In fact I struggle to find any redeeming features. I am used to yamaha, casio & technics & this does not come close.
