I've read a lot of books on internet marketing ... and I mean a lot... and most of them are pretty tired, repeating the same old ideas and advice.
In comparison, Parkin's book is a breath of fresh air. It's a no-nonsense, practical guide that sets out a clear framework for a successful digital marketing programme; and it's clear right from the beginning that he really knows his stuff. I'm in the midst of launching a new online business, and despite having been through this whole process before (successfully) I was really struggling until I found this book. I found Parkin's emphasis on strategy especially helpful in developing a clear vision for my new business and drawing up a marketing plan that will take us successfully through launch and beyond. I only wish I'd found it 6 months ago!

A surprisingly up-to-date and forward-thinking digital marketing text, I would recommend this particularly to senior executives schooled in traditional marketing who find themselves managing digital teams and projects. From social media marketing to search engine optimisation and even the bones of digital marketing program and strategy-formulation, this book walks the lay reader through the subject painlessly. I see this book as being relevant to the field for many years to come and would highly recommend it as a solid introduction to digital marketing.

If you're embarking on a new venture as a SMB, or if you're accountable in a business development role in a larger corporation then I recommend you read this book. The authors do an excellent job providing context to the size of the opportunity, in terms of global market reach, niche products and the ability to be a small but significant fish in a very big pond. And also what Web 2.0 really means and why consumers are now in control and why traditional marketing techniques are now obsolete.The text is a little out of date now and subjects like social CRM, Cloud Computing and the rise of Android are absent from this text. That said, I do recommend reading this, even as a skim read - there are just over 200 pages and you can much value from this book.
