Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

In a violent age, eons from now, nomad humans roam the earth, inflicting cruelty on the beasts and creatures of the world. The human race is wasteful, selfish and fights amongst itself, while those closest to nature, the beast race, learn from human failings evolving and growing stronger with the passing of time. A daily struggle ensues, man against beast, for the very basic national resources that nurture life. Each race has its own style of battle, its own leader, and its own way to victory. Which side are you on?

Combining real time strategy and first person action, "SAVAGE" delivers the next level in multiplayer gaming. Instead of sending mindless computer drones into battle, players organize real human players on a crusade to conquer their adversaries. A player may choose to be a commander, and play an in-depth RTS game, researching technologies, mining resources, and issuing orders to their warriors. If a player chooses to be a warrior, they will play an intense game of first person combat, wielding their weapon of choice to strike down the enemy.

SAVAGE is designed so that neither RTS nor Action based play are watered down in any way. RTS fans will have all the control they are used to such as tech tree, resource management and tactical strategy. In turn, the action-based players will play an in-depth fighting game with a heavy emphasis on battle dynamics. Although the two sides work together their roles are very distinct.

5.0 out of 5 stars Savage - Game review, 22 Feb 2004
This review is from: Savage  (PC) (Video Game)
Savage is one of the most original games I have seen recently. UT2003 I found fun, but was a little too fast paced for my tastes, and contained little if any strategy. Savage for me was a big suprise when I downloaded the demo merely on a whim and found a far more in-depth game, a week of playing was enough to convince me that here was a game that would hold my interest for some time to come and I have not regretted buying the game (over 2 months ago now).
Savage is a FPS, but with FAR more emphasis on teamwork - both with your teammates on the ground, and with your team's commander. How often in a real-time-strategy game have you sworn at your AI units for their stupidity and wanted human intelligence in them? Now you can.
On a technical note - I was impressed with the support for both Windows and Linux out of the box. Its low technical requirements mean that I got far better performance than I'm used to in an FPS. v1.2 (the version that the demo is running at) performed extremely well for me (1.33Ghz Athlon and Geforce 4 4800ti), where other games have performed less well. You will probably want DSL for the best gaming experience - to get the all-powerful low-ping, but dial-up users shouldn't find themselves too put-out.
In short - if you find FPS's too much of a simple-minded twich game, and want something with more strategy, then look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Original online game to date, 21 Feb 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Savage  (PC) (Video Game)
This game when first relaesed in the US was still rough around the edges and because of this had a lot of frustrating bugs.

However, the european release has had almost all of these bugs resolved, and with a good technical team woking onit, are making constant improvements and refinements. The game as it stands now is an action packed strategy/FPS unlike any other on the market at present.

The game itself is based on 1 commander building a command and conquer style base, and the rest of the team playing his units. Every game you play online is different depending on the strategy the commander takes, and there is a large variety of weapons and items to make it much more diverse than your average Online FPS. It is also a game that has a good learning curve so that new players dont end up as fresh meat for the grinder. There is also a large variety of maps each one posing different problems. I bought this game about 1 month ago and there hasnt been a day where I havent played it, its very addictive and has good longevity of play. If you like online gaming then this is a must have. If you've never done online gaming then this game would be ideal to start with, due to the depth of variety this game has.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Impressive Game Ever Played, 22 Feb 2004
This review is from: Savage  (PC) (Video Game)
This game is a new step forward in online gaming experience. You can play in RTSS style as commander of your team or FPS style and follow the orders of the commander to destroy the opponents base.

It's not just about fragging like most FPS games, but a good strategy is also very important. You have a lot of different units, weapons and items to accomplish your task to destroy there base. This units, weapons and items first need to be researched by your Commander. You commander can only research stuff when there's enough stone and gold. The FPS players need to get the Gold by killing enemies or buildings. Stone will be collected by stone mining. Gold can also be mined but it's faster to kill enemies or destroy buildings. Commander can research workers to accomplish the mining task.

In battles, when you get closer to your enemy, you mostly will use melee attacks instead of using your advanced weapons. Melee requires some practise but you will get used to it soon and its extremely powerful.

Last but not least, you can choose between 2 races, Humans or Beasts, both with there own buildings, units, items and weapons.

WARNING! This game is highly addictive!
