Format:Audio CD
Overall i'm pretty happy with this release, it was always going to be a difficult return. I find the most enjoyable tracks are in the middle of the album - Pain, Gold Dust and Strong.
Track 2, Venom is a bit of a mess and the least enjoyable, but overall it is a welcome return following the sad loss of former vocalist Mike Baker. I don't buy into criticism of the vocals on this album or panning of this release...ok its not up there with "Tyranny"(their best album in my humble opinion), but its still worthy in its own right.
To my ears this band has the technical ability to compare with Dream Theater & Symphony X in a similar musical space,(in the studio anyway as they don't perform live) whilst they generally have better crafted and more melodic compositions.
Fair play to the band putting out a creditable release after such a massive setback, great to have them back.

You really can't hear they lost Mike Baker. It's just another melodic album, with all those nice harmonic vocals,and those good melodies you've come to expect from Shadow Gallery. On the label it says it's recommended for fans of Symphony X and Dream Theater. If you don't know this band, it's probably something in between these bands, when it comes to complexity... simpler than DT, more complex than Symphony X. Their sound is most like Symphony X, especially vocalwise, but it's definitely only the very best Symphony X that can be compared with this quite unique band.
