3.0 out of 5 stars basics 10 Dec 2008
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This 144 page book is beautifully illustrated throughout. It offers tips and expertise for the photographer interested in capturing the essence of flowers. The book is divided into three sections - what you need, ie. equipment; basic techniques - getting the camera settings right and digital image processing - enhancing the image and making it look better.

The images are accompanied by good advice for improving your skills and techniques. Example are given of the same shot taken with different exposures. The chapters on composition and backgrounds are useful. This book is easy to understand, but only scratches the surface of flower photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully illustrated book 29 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been looking for an 'inspirational' book on macro flower photography for some time - this is it. A well written book with chapters covering choice of camera and lenses, supports and filters, exposure, DoF, light, colour, backgrounds and composition, and a final chapter on digital image processing.

Previously I have bought books on 'macro' photography that have turned out to be more 'close-up' photography. This one is almost entirely dedicated to the use of a macro lens.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful - it is worth buying for the illustrations alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars All the inspiration you need 16 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
What a great book - full of good practical tips and beautifully illustrated with images. Contains enough technical info to let you see how the photograph was created but without overloading you with excessive nonsense. After just an initial flick through of the contents i was in the garden with the camera using some of the composition ideas i had seen and was immediately seeing improvements. Can't wait to see what happens when i actually READ the book !

4.0 out of 5 stars An Informative and Inspirational Book 5 Jun 2011
By Nicola
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
After looking at a number of books on macro and close up photography, I settled on this one, as it is dedicated to flowers, which is what I mostly take photos of.

Each chapter is dedicated to an element of photography, such as apature, lighting etc. At first I thought it was going to run over all the basics, but the author did not. She related these topcis specifically to the art of taking photos of flowers. There are lots of beautiful pictures in the book with a description of apature and shutter speed used along with focal length. All aimed at getting the creative juices flowing!

It is a very easy book to read and can be read cover to cover or, you can dip into the chapter you feel you need more help with.

This is not a step by step how to recreate the picture in the book, but a manual aimed to help you think about the shot you want to take and be more creative in how you set up your shot. At the end of the day, all photos are individual and we all see things differently, so it is probably best to just get out there and play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the purchase 21 July 2009
Format:Paperback
Having just purchased a 100mm Canon Macro lens for my EOS 500D I find this book to be a great help. It's full of good tips, and its 143 pages shows lots of beautiful photographs giving the relevant ISO, aperture and shutter speed information. I've still got a lot to learn about macro photography but this book is certainly a very helpful guide, well worth the buying.

I have purchased this book after borrowing it from a friend. I love taking photographs of gardens and flowers but I am not very technically minded. I found this book enjoyable to read and easy to follow. I can dip into it to find the information I need quickly.
