The original L'Espion digital was a phenomenal success due to its minute size and the new improved L'Espion Extra looks to continue this with again, a tiny size, but with a far greater image quality and a nice shiny metal outer case. The pull up viewfinder does take some getting use to especially if you've used a camera or digital camera with a conventional viewfinder before as it can be quite difficult to line up the subject matter, but with a bit of practice it becomes a lot easier.
The L'Espion Extra ships with both PhotoExpress image editing software and EyeStar Mail Webcam/Webmail software making it an ideal camera for the novice user. The software is very easy to use and will keep the whole family entertained for ages. The PhotoExpress software is a great introduction to digital image manipulation, and with the software you can enhance your digital snaps.
The camera can also be used for capturing short video clips--albeit without audio. Also, connecting the camera to your PC will allow you to capture video footage and e-mail it around the world with the included Eyestar Mail software. You can store up to 492 images at the lowest setting (400x300) and 169 (800x600) at the highest. There is enough memory to capture up to 26 seconds of video footage. Other features on the camera include a self-timer, auto power off, and a small LCD screen for displaying information such as battery level and number of pictures left.
If you were happy with the original L'Espion camera, you'll be blown away with the Extra. It's small, compact and slips easily into your pocket. The image quality completely overshadows its predecessor. The included software is a real bonus and makes this one of the best micro-sized digital cameras in its price range. --Martin Snelling
After pluging in the cam into the usb-cable, the usb-software installed itself twice. Or it needed 2 sets of drivers, dunno...
I've got XP home... The 2nd install just broke off with an error-msg. After experimenting for aprox. 2 hours, and de and reinstalling the drivers and the software, the TWAIN screen stayed empty all the time. Only after deinstalling the usb-drivers over the systems-menu, and reinstalling them MANNUALY, over the sys-menu the 2nd batch of drivers were found and installed correctly.
The DigitalDream Homepage hasn't got their own product in the dropdownmenus! And there are NO DRIVERS WHAT SO EVER (18.11.2002)
THAT is a serious lack of customer friendlyness and support!
The Eye-Cam-Webcam-Software doesn't work, and tells me to check on the video cable, although I've got the TWAIN working at last, and can download the pics and avis.
So if you've got problems downloading the pics (not seeing any pics in the TWAIN) get a friend with computerknowledge to install the USBdrivers manually. And hope that the support at DigitalDream catches up soon.
The Cam itself is good. nice design, acceptable Pics, and enough space. But don't rely on their support.
The camera is so much fun, and it looks so hi tech and nifty. Wherever I go nowadays i bring along the camera, It's so small I can fit it in my pocket and (at times) forget its even there! It's great, I truly won't miss another one of those "kodak moments" ever again.
The picture quality varies, in poor light pictures are poor, in day light pictures come out at there best and in a well lit room the camera does its magic. The picture quality as a whole is not at all bad, my only complaint is pictures tend to be a little dull, But anyone who can use the software provided or use an alternative (I tend to enhance my photos with Paint Shop Pro) can quickly get the best out of there cameras pictures.
It's good, it's fun and it's definetly something you'll not be afraid to show off, I'm sure that some people may think the camera only deserves 4 stars because the picture quality isn't earth shattering, but in my view it does the job, the price doesn't make your eyes water and it's the only camera i have ever seen that looks cute... and thats coming from a guy.
It even takes approx 20secs of video footage as normal, i've read it can take even more if i use it as a webcam, i've not tried that yet.
It comes with a battery, free case & lead & great image editing software. a definite must buy, but if you want to take pics in the darkness look elsewhere, for good light photos buy this.
