Every book that Worcestor's 3D Total has created became a solid gold publication, very quickly establishing them not only as solid publishers, but also able to create a fantastic book with some of the very best artworks you're ever likely to see, the same can be said of this 6th installment.

Within these pages, the Digital Art Masters Vol 6 series showcases the crem de la crem of 2D & 3D digital atists from all over the world. This book and it's predecessors are gems to flick through, study, learn and draw plenty of inspiration from.

If you are a beginner into the world of digital art or even a seasoned professional this book delivers 50 of the very best artists around the world today, some artists are from well known film/video-game companies whereas others are just incredibly talented hobbyists.

To say that this book is just a gallery flipbook would be selling it very short. This is so much more than that, there's in depth tutorials, making ofs and written information that normally only one to one sessions with the original artist could be as detailed.

As for the quality of the book itself it's of a very high standard, the pages are large, the screen shots and tutorial/making of pictures are in full colour which help a great deal when trying to understand the processes that have gone into the creation of these masterpeices. The paper is glossy and pleasant to the touch, there's no tiny black & white pictures here, they can be left for the lesser quality book publishers.

There are individual artists that for me stand out amongst the others, most notably would have to be Meny Hilsenrad's Classroom, Meny works at Studio Aiko and displays a level of detailing i've not seen before, there is literally everything you could ever think of modelled, lit and rendered into this scene and all 100% photoreal..... in fact you'd be hard pushed to realise it's 3D unless you knew. The same could be said of Luc Begin's Portrait these artists are enthusiastic about their artworks and the sheer amount of effort that has gone into all of these artworks is mind boggling....... this will make a fantastic addition to any library, so go get your copy now!

It's always a delight to read the Digital Art Masters series of books. They are saturated with inspiration, information and insight.

Volume 6 continues to impress. There are 50 artists included, and that is a lot. At 320 pages here, it's slightly more than Volume 5. The printed quality is similar to previous books, which is good.

The illustrations included are beautiful, as usual. It's hard to pick favourites. They are grouped into scenes, characters, fantasy, sci-fi and cartoon. The subjects drawn are incredibly varied. The thing constant is, every artist will give you an element of surprise and awe. The style ranges from impressionist painterly style to photo-realistic to 3D renders.

Some of the work are already been displayed online, such as the amazing 3D model of Meny Hilsenrad's Classroom. The book offers more with the commentary that looks into the creation processes of these detailed pieces of art. There are snapshots of work in progress, with the artists explaining some tips and techniques in first person. You can better appreciate the art when you know how they were made.

This book is a great source of inspiration.

Highly recommended to digital artists.

Digital Masters series continues to deliver 9 Aug 2011
By Nick - Published on Amazon.com
Digital Art Masters volume 6 continues the series of inspirational art from 3D Total members, providing incredible images from a number of artists who have also included detailed comments on how each piece was created. Books of this nature can be equally inspiring and depressing to the budding artist but the series makes for much more than just a set of coffee table books through the artists talking about the methods they used to create each piece in an interesting, informative and overall inspirational manner

The depth of information varies from piece to piece as you would expect and sometimes you find yourself wishing for a little more information but generally the comments are well measured to give an insight into how you could try to create something similar

Covering both 2D and 3D artwork and a wide set of themes, the book also makes for a great reference for trying out different genres and styles of art. Many of the articles also include concept art which helps to show the full creation process beyond the tradition "this is how you do this in this application" approach although there are articles that include application specific screen shots too where specific concepts and approaches require that level of detail

Whether you are a budding artist or simply looking for some inspiring art work this is a must-buy book

There's nothing like excellent artwork supported by step-by-step breakdowns of an artist's workflow to inspire fellow artists. This is one of my favorite editions of this series. Worth every penny and then some.
