3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but could have been so much more. 5 Mar 2013

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a fun little game and in many ways it is an improvement on the first, but I can't help but think they could have done more with it.

Firstly, there is no story, this is solely a beat-em-up game with a few mini games on VS mode. It's pretty unusual these days for a beat em up game not to have a story running through it or even a full story mode. They missed out there, especially since the TV show probably draws in most buyers.

Repetitiveness is also an issue, again in part due to there being no story. But there were also times playing through where I ended up fighting the same opponent like 3 times in a row...that's happened on several occasions and really shouldn't!

The unlockable characters are okay. Unfortunately most of them are Mega level bosses, which are fun to play as every once in a while, but they're so powerful, you're not really challenged if you play as them. I would have much rather have seen rookie unlockables that could digivolve. The only evolvable unlockables we get are BlackAgumon, BlackGabumon and BlackGuilmon, which as the names suggest are just recoloured versions of their respective offset characters...even most of their attacks are just recolourings.

There are good things though. The game play flows much more smoothly than the previous game, there are more characters. The arenas are interactive and you can throw objects, pick up items etc. Most digimon can digivolve twice and there are quite a few mini games to play on VS mode.

This game is worth getting, there are just a lot of missed opportunities.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shame there's no story! 28 Aug 2012
By Gilbert
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game after playing it at a party a few years ago, and I thought the game was 5 star material, entertaining the group of 6 of us for a few hours, constantly trying new people and going against each other etc. and I thought it was just fantastic. However, when I bought the game for myself, I realised the harsh truth. This game is NOT built for 1 player entertainment as the only thing that 1 player on his/her own can do is a mode that unlocks new players but that's about it. If there was sdome kind of story mode then this game would be magnificent and one of the best games for ps2. Unfortunately, it doesn't and this really affects my opinion on it as a game.

As a party game, and for people in groups of 2-6 players it is fun as you can make your own entertainment out of the game by creating tournaments with your friends etc. and you soon pick a favorite that you enjoy playing as most and when enough effort is put into enjoying this game, it can be. But ONLY for 2 PLAYERS or more as this game is just not appealing to a 1 player audience. If you're looking for a good game to entertain the kids for a few hours, then give them this and they will love it when there are others to play with, otherwise, don't get it. Sure it's fun, but if you aren't going to play it with others then don't get it, as it lacks the 1 player entertainment that could truly make this game great.
