No Random???, 20 Feb 2007
This is my first digital photo frame. I'd waited until the frames with a reasonable resolution (at least 640x480) had dropped to an affordable price and when Amazon put this frame out for a good price it was a must buy.
Frame looks very nice and can have interchangeable fronts, although there's no information on where these can be bought.
Sturdy foot keeps the frame safe. The frame can be used in landscape or portrait mode, or can be hung on the wall.
Photos look very nice after being resized to 640x480 by another program (hint: use Google's free Picasa2 and it's export function) as the internal resize doesn't do as good a job, plus you cannot fit as many photos onto the card.
As a yard-stick, I have 800 photos, all at 640x480 on a 1Gig card and the card is only 1/8th full so you can get a lot on this frame with a decent sized card.
MP4 playback (XVID) worked when I tried it, and MP3 played OK, although don't expect to be knocked off your feet by the small speakers.
Nice remote giving you access to the controls without having to fiddle around the back all the time.
Menus are straight forward and allow changing of display length of photos (sadly only 1, 3, 5 and 10 seconds, nothing longer) plus transition effects.
However, this frame loses a star for its lack of random function! The slideshow always restarts from the beginning of the card each time (in file name order) so the photos at the end of your card won't get seen that often! I ended up randomising the names of the photos on the card to simulate the effect.
To sum up - nice looking frame, photos look very good correctly resized, shame about the lack of random function.

I have only had the frame for a few days but am delighted with it. The only reason I am not awarding it 5 stars overall is the poor manual - it would have been useful to include some guidance on the preparation of Photos and Videos, particularly the latter, for those less familiar with computers. Also, some information on the options for music would also have been appreciated.
That said, I think the performance, which is the main thing, warrants a 5 star rating.
The multicard reader enabled me to use some old, discarded camera cards. Even my old 64 MB card will hold several hundred photos.
I am particularly delighted with the Video capability using a newer,faster ( x50 )media card.
Several MPEG1 video files I have produced from WMV files, using the free converter TMPGEnc, all ran perfectly.
MPEG2 files also ran perfectly when encoded as 352x480 files but I got a few "stutters", both in the videos and audio, in videos encoded as 720x480 files. Download MPEG2 files with this resolution also showed this effect. MPEG4(XVID) files ( AVI files ) of resolution 640x480 and higher showed a similar effect, although one encoded as 320x240 was OK.
Maybe one needs an even faster media card for videos with the higher resolution ? This is an example where a better manual would have been very useful and saved me a lot of time.
However, since the MPEG1 and lower resolution MPEG2 videos play perfectly, I am very happy to standardise my videos on one of these resolutions, which are adequate for a small screen. Remember, the 10.4" is measured across the diagonal, as with TVs, so the actual screen size is 8" x 6".
So, with some computer/video know-how, you can get videos to play well. Now I know the system works well I somewhat regret not having bought the 15" version.
One cautionary note: if anyone buys the unit here and is considering also buying media cards from this supplier, check the delivery price carefully - the headline prices are very deceptive.

Disappointed., 19 Feb 2007
We have been looking at a digital frame for some time to display our photographs and reading the product details we thought this frame would be ideal.
Displaying photographs was very straight forward and the frame did our photographs justice.
Unfortunately playing music and movies was a different matter. Not being too up on the digital age, we like products that are simple to use. Having to convert files to make them available to be played on this frame was too much for us and not what we expected to have to do.
The instruction manual is the most sparse of any we have ever received with a product. No trouble shooting guide at all.
For those more technically minded this will be a good product but for those of us who like our products simpler and with a good clear manual to assist us this is a disappointing product.
