While the first TV series was excellent, as the second is also turning out to be, disappointingly, the DVD version is ten minutes per episode less than the TV broadcast version. I haven't checked them all against their TV versions yet to see how much real difference this makes to every episode. But in a quick look at the first episode there are sections that no longer run together as smoothly as the broadcast version.
Note: the blurb on here quotes 240 minutes run time, but that is wrong and total run time is approximately 199 minutes, i.e. less the aforementioned 4 x ten minutes per episode. I have notified Amazon so eventually I imagine they will correct it.
There are a couple of extra features comprising a 30 second stills picture gallery of images from the programs and an on-screen written bio of Dr. Alice Roberts that is no consolation for the missing pieces, however much I enjoy her as a presenter. To be honest, they are totally superfluous and don't add any value at all to the DVD. Perhaps they thought that as it was a DVD with less run time than the broadcast version they had to give the appearance of adding extra value. If so, they failed, hence the loss of two stars, one for the missing pieces and the second for the so called extra features.
I doubt I'll buy the second series if/when it comes out if they remove 10 minutes from each of the four episodes in that as well.
