Product Description

Disorders caused indirectly by poor digestion include arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and migraine headaches. This guide helps readers gain better control over their digestive function and its relationship with their health.

From the Back Cover

"If you seek to be more proactive and involved in your health care decisions, this well-written, understandable book is an important place to begin the process."
--Doug Wilmore, M.D., and Judith Shabert, M.D., R.D., M.P.H.

Not only is faulty digestion directly responsible for a large number of gastrointestinal disorders, it can be indirectly responsible for a vast array of seemingly unrelated illnesses including arthritis, migraines, and auto-immune diseases.

In Digestive Wellness, clinical nutritionist Elizabeth Lipski explains how your digestive system works and what can happen when it experiences complications. She covers all the common gastrointestinal disorders and offers her expert guidance on the newest advances in testing and diagnosis, nutrition, and natural therapies, including detoxification and self-care options for more than thirty common conditions.

Identify and treat digestive complications such as:

IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) • GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) • indigestion • gas bloating • constipation • celiac disease • hepatitis • inflammatory bowel diseases • and more

Digestive Wellness offers practical information that will guide you toward better health. This new edition is extensively updated to include:

  • New sections on hepatitis, cirrhosis, Barrett's esophagus, and Behcet's disease
  • The latest information on food allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, probiotics, prebiotics, and the use of supplements and herbs
  • Advice on how healthy changes in diet and lifestyle can help you achieve a level of physical and emotional wellness you may have never experienced before

5.0 out of 5 stars Vital Information, 12 Sep 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Digestive Wellness (Paperback)
I have recently embarked on a nutrition diploma and have bought the book as background reading for my course. I found the book to be well written, easy to read and even more importantly easy to understand. A must for anyone who like me is embarking on a career in nutrition or quite simply takes a keen interest in the health of their body.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good info, 28 Jan 2012
This book contains good solid information and could absolutely really help improve the health of a lot of people.

This book was good, but not as good as the book on this topic by Dr Sherry Rogers which I found far more thorough. That book was excellent and so I would recommend it over this one. If all your library has is this book however, it is well worth a read and makes many important points.

Also worth reading are books on the SCD eating plan and the GAPS diet, if you have serious gut issues and dysbiosis and need to heal your gut. These books take a very different and diet-based approach, that may be even more beneficial for some people.

Jodi Bassett, The Hummingbirds' Foundation for M.E.

3.0 out of 5 stars It could work, 29 Aug 2010
This book is a collection of things to do for every ailment that work for some people. So they could work for you or not. It is interesting but I expected much more (on the line of Gut Reaction). In any case there are some chapters interesting.
