Ultra and Dig were labels run by bandleader Johnny Otis in the mid to late `50s. In his travels across the country with the Johnny Otis Caravan, he came upon many upcoming and talented musicians; most who remain pretty obscure. This disc features the first recordings by Johnny "Big Moose" Walker, who later became well known on the Chicago circuit playing with Earl Hooker. Sugarcane Harris is also aboard with his electric violin; he later played with lap steel player Freddie Roulette. Sound is good as it possibly can be as these tracks were remastered in top notch fashion by Ace, in this case mostly from the original tapes. Fans of fifties blues and R'n'B will find this disc a real find.
