Book Description

28 Nov 2008
Chiropractors are recognized specialists in spinal pain. But today, as chiropractors move increasingly into primary care roles, it's not uncommon to see patients with coughs, fever, abdominal pain, and dozens of other nonmusculoskeletal symptoms. Differential Diagnosis and Management for the Chiropractor covers the range of complaints commonly seen in daily practice -- including neurologic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, cardiopulmonary, and many other concerns and conditions. With easy-to-follow algorithms and concise explanatory text, this timely handbook helps the practitioner evaluate a patient's complaint in the context of his or her scope of practice. Protocols for a wide range of visceral conditions are outlined, as well as the musculoskeletal conditions traditionally associated with chiropractic. This new edition is revised to reflect updated national guidelines and recommendations. Laboratory values have been added, as well as considerations for evaluating special populations and increased nutritional and musculoskeletal management information.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad crack but could be better 4 Feb 2005
This revised edition is better than its predecessor but lacks depth. As an easy to navigate reference aid to all major areas of the body it excels, but for the majority of cases and medical complaints further reading is required. There are topics covered in this book that are presented as established fact whereas current consensus and contemporary research may reflect a different view.
A good starting point and a useful book to have, especially as a student, but it would be unwise to base a treatment plan solely on this literature in all but the simplest of cases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for any Chiropractor or student 19 July 2001
This book is essential for any Chiropractor or student. It has everything you could possibly need in practice and offers simple to use algorithms to diagnose presenting conditions. Whether you use it to study or in practice, Souza gathers together and collates in an easy-to use format, most of the essential information needed to become a successful, competent and safe Chiropractor. It is a neccessity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top stuff, even for Osteopathic Students! 12 Jun 2009
By GWChimp
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I had been searching for a good text book full of information to help me with differential diagnosis based on mechanical causes and this seems to be it! It uses chiropractic terminology which is slightly different from osteopathic terminology, but I've not found anything better in the osteopathic books. I would compare it to the Goodman&Schneider Screening for Referral book, where that book is looking for pathological causes of presentations, and this book is looking for mechanical. I've only read through two chapters so far but I'm well impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Good Book for every chiropractor 26 Aug 2004
By Charles Caron - Published on Amazon.com
I find it amusing that some doctors get angry when we speak of differential diagnosis in chiropractic. To make it clear chiropractic is a university level program of 5 years (where I come from) with 1000+ hours in diagnostic. This book is an excellent reference for every practicing chiropractor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Former guy is just a small headed MD who is jealous 24 July 2004
By G. BAUMLER - Published on Amazon.com
This book is very informative in the diagnosis and treatment of many disorders. True it is written more for the chiropractor but if you look at the title of the book you might have an idea why it is written the way it is. The former reviewer is obvioulsy a MD or someone who does not believe in the chiropractic healing methods. He would rather rely on drugs and making drug companies happy than treating people the right way. I diagnosed my mother with subtrochanteric bursitis through this book. I am in my 8th tri of chiropractic school. Do you want to know how she was treated by MDs. A nerve block!!!! To the L4 nerve....now hmmmm maybe more MDs should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful text! 6 May 2012
By Learner - Published on Amazon.com
This book is an extremely useful resource, and I am an osteopathy student! I wouldn't restrict it to just chiropractors, anyone who works in manual therapy or even orthopedics could find this book very helpful! It's very black and white, which isn't always the case with the body, but it helps to pull you out of the grey zone of endless possibility :)

It's a very thoroughly written book. I am a student so as of yet I haven't been able to test its clinical value yet, but it seems solid to me.
