Product Description

Foods can create chemical reactions in the brain similar to those experienced from drugs. Recent scientific research has shown that it takes two days to detox from cocaine but TWO WEEKS to detox from junk food. It's simply not our fault we crave certain foods; we're addicted to how they make us feel.

But using training from the world-famous Betty Ford Center in California, Dr Mike Dow will guide you through his pain-free 28-day weight-loss programme. Watch the pounds drop off!

Dr Dow shows us how to withdraw painlessly from bad foods and looks at why we craved them in the first place. In just four weeks, you will have lost weight and be completely free from all your food cravings.

Check into Dr Dow's Diet Rehab and rid yourself of all your food addictions.

Well Worth buying.. 5 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a specialist in addiction and weight loss I collect information that may help the people I work with. Dr Mike has an interesting take on a subject where there is no "one size fits all" answer.

Weight gain is a multi faceted issue that is currently affecting most of our population and we need more voices and information that is clear, understandable and most importantly usable and doable...

Dr Mike covers CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) negative automatic thought processes and as this is something I personally teach I feel that this info is worth the cover price alone. It is also written in an easy to understand way that helps the reader to begin to make sense of "how and why" we overeat certain substances even when we don't want to.

Dr Mike also realises understanding is not enough and also covers simple strategies to create measurable change. Add in some insightful questionnaires and you can begin to think that maybe this book will help when other similar books haven't been so successful with you.

Like any diet book - my best advice is to read it walking round your local park, look for the common themes such as water, walking and writing things down and then pick something you can measure and see if it works for you. If it does, then do more of it and if not then pick something else.

My favourite part of the book and also something I choose to share with people is creating ways of feeling good that doesn't involve food or drink or a harmful substance. Dr Mike does this elegantly by splitting feel good into dopamine and seratonine (our natural feel good neuro-transmitters) enhancing lists. Simple things that we enjoy, and sometimes things that we may have forgotten such as having a dance party with your kids or getting your nails done.

Like most media - there is also an accompanying website - so google Dr Mike and check that out as well.

As many of us know too well - addiction is real and it's effects can be devasting. So well done Dr Mike and his team for putting together some really helpful information. Anyone who is currently helping people change their life around is OK in my world. So who knows - maybe this book is the catalyst you have been waiting for...

As someone who definitely loves their food this was really fascinating. Completely changed the way I think about dieting, and it's great to see that this guy actually understands the science behind it all and isn't just one of these idiots you see touting fab diets. Saw him talk on tv when I was in the US and he's such a clever guy. Definitely recommend this book!

The science behind this diet really made it stand out for me - the idea that bad foods are addictive is really interesting. Mike's advice makes sense and is easy to follow. His tone is friendly and the diet isn't scary, in fact you start by adding more foods to your diet so it's not been too painful! I'm a couple of weeks in but am really impressed so far. After the 28 days programme I'll definitely make more of an effort to stay active and will try not to go back to junk foods and I understand how addictive they are now!
