This book is great. The RYA really do throw all their efforts into making fantastic books. It also comes with a dvd which is preety good. The explanations and graphics are great. Due to the fact that their are many types of engines in boats means this will not make you an expert but give you enough background to look at your own engine and manuals and carry out the basic tasks. Simple engine failure is the most common cause of RNLI call outs. All boaters have a duty to take care of the minor problems and repairs. I can highly recommend the one day RYA shore based course. my only complaint is the price but if you are not sure get it from your local library first. you will want to own one so you have it at hand on the boat.

A fantastic book that gives excellent detailed explanations about every aspect of a Marine Diesel engine. It comes with a cd, which again is a very well explained detailed view of how to do maintenance on the various parts of the engine. Definately a 'must have' if you've got a Marine Deisel engine, or if you want to do some pre-study before going on the RYA Marine Diesel engine course.

This book is excellent - I really didn't understand engines before I read it but I now feel I know the basics. It's written in a very simple, easy to understand style and goes right back to basics - good for us who know nothing about engines!
