Director Renny Harlin took the reins for the 1990 sequel, Die Harder, which places Bruce Willis in harm's way again with a gaggle of terrorists. This time, Willis awaits his wife's arrival at Dulles Airport in Washington DC when he gets wind of a plot to blow up the facility. Noisy, overbearing and forgettable, the film has none of the purity of its predecessor's simple story; and it makes a huge miscalculation in allowing a terrible tragedy to occur rather than stretch out the tension. Where Die Hard sets new precedents in action movies, Die Hard 2 is just an anything-goes spectacle. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

The sequel, Die Hard 2 is slightly disappointing in contrast to the original but still provides solid entertainment. The film starts on Christmas Eve (again) one year later, only this time in Washington DC. McClane arrives at Dellis International Airport to pick up his wife who's on her way from Los Angeles. Things take an unexpected turn when a group of ex-military terrorists take control of the airport to negotiate the release of a drug lord. Once again, it is up to John McClane to stop the bad guys. Die Hard 2 lacks some of the humour of the original and isn't quite as exciting, but makes still makes an above average companion and an entertaining way to spend a couple of hours.
The 2 discs worth of extras in this set are fantastic. The extra disc to the first film offers a unique interactive insight into the editing process of the motion picture. The best part of this disc is easily the scene editing workshop where the viewer can cut together his/her own version of one of the scenes in the movie with alternate takes, camera angles and dialogue. Among the other extras for the first film are a commentary, a deleted scene (that can be reinserted into the film), out-takes, original newscast footage, trailers, TV spots, interactive slide show, magazine articles and more. The extra disc for the second film is a bit more routine, but still worthy. Included is a commentary, "making of", deleted scenes, original featurette, interviews, trailers and more.
All in all, an excellent package and a must-have for any action fan. All that is missing is the third film (which Buena Vista own the rights to) that is available for purchase in its own stand-alone two disc set, another highly recommended purchase.
