Didn't It Feel KinderAmy Ray's latest solo album is a triumph. On the first 2 or 3 listens, it's something of a disappointment but once it clicked, I couldn't stop playing it. It's something of a departure after her first few lo-fi solo efforts, and production by Greg Griffith brings an extra dimension to these 10 fantastic songs. The arrangements bring out the best in the songs, without overwhelming them,and have great backing vocals and harmonies. The songs are so strong, it's difficult to pick out a favourite, but Bus Bus is perhaps most like earlier material and is a great spiky punky song. She's got to be is cool and sensual, and Out on the farm simply fantastic. It's always a sign of confidence when an artist leaves one of the best songs till the end of the album, and that's just what Amy does with Rabbit Foot, a beautiful and moving song. Highly recommended and my most played album of the past year.
