Did You Miss Me is the second album from the New York soulful house trio Tortured Soul. Gilles Peterson calls them “the future of house music” and their style combines elements of old soul and funk with a modern dancefloor sensibility.
Since the release of their 2006 debut album the trio, led by former Cooly’s Hot Box drummer Christian Urich, have astounded audiences worldwide – in the UK they have twice performed in the main room at the Southport Weekender, played the Big Chill Festival, and sold out London shows at Fabric, Cargo and the Jazz Café. Their music has featured on Hed Kandi, Ministry and Defected compilations.
This new album has more driving soulful house winners, from opening track “Home To You” to “Your Dream Is My Dream”, as well as the Jamiroquai-flavoured “Special Lady” and the Latin party vibe of “We Like Tequila”. They are the undisputed worldwide leaders in live soulful house music, and the new album will see them gaining mainstream acceptance.

Tortured Soul are a bit of an unknown entity in the UK, but 'Home To You' is probably going to change that, so it's apt that this funky soul track opens the album. While lyrically Tortured Soul may not be the most profound, musically they create great groove based dance music with a strong soul influence.
Touted as being a great live band, Tortured Soul certainly debunk the myth that this style of music is all synthesizers and samples; 'Your Dream is My Dream' is a cool bass driven groove with a great funk guitar part that really highlights their song writing capabilities. The album itself features a mixture of music for the funky house lounge - such as the latin tinged 'We Love Tiquilla' and 'Time to Make up your Mind' - and dance floor fillers like 'Special Lady', 'At The Bottom', 'Another Lover' and the aforementioned 'Home to You' and 'Your Dream is My Dream'. If funk, dance and soul are your thing I'm not sure that you would find a better album than this.

Bought on the strength of a few reviews (not all on this site) which all said the same - great Soulful House, and it delivers exactly that!
Anybody who is into Jamiroquai,Coolys Hot Box, even Incognito, Brand New Heavies etc will not fail to love this ! Buy It !

Destined for Greatness!!!!

Tortured Soul is one of the best live bands I've ever seen. I just caught their LA show at The Roxy and the whole house was bumpin' The first album is still fresh after many plays and the new one is more great stuff. "Did You Miss Me" definitely has more of a bumpin' dance falvor to it than the first album (A little more on the jazzy house tip in my opinion). Lots of groovy disco-ish beats, which never seem to go out of style. Everyone I expose to this music is an instant fan!!!!

No Torture In This Soul

I was brought to attention to this group when they added me as a friend on MySpace. I never heard of them before, and just like most groups and artists that add you on those online network communities, I didn't pay them much attention. But I decided to check them out before I added them and was instantly hooked to their soulful stew of house and R&B. They even bring together the classic Motown percussion sounds on the Hitsville title track. "Did You Miss Me" brightens up with the "Baby Love" handclaps and reminiscent guitar drives along with the cool, sexy vocals of Chrisitan Urich. It's almost like a Robin Thicke/John Legend (a la Once Again) but with a glorious polished sound that blends the guitar work of Chic and the just-as-fascinating Euro/Italio synth disco sounds of Change. "In My Fantasy" sweetly blends disco joys into their '80s galactic echoes. Dance floors should light up on their upbeat offerings, which dominate the course of the project. "Home to You" sounds like a beefy dance groove that conjures up the likeness of Change's "The Glow of Love." Other standouts include "Special Lady," the clever '80s vibes of the instrumental "In Motion," the playful "We Like Tequila" and the soft lounge/dance strobes of "Time to Make Up Your Mind." If you are fans of the rich soul of House producers Masters at Work and you love the mix of live instrumentation with clever electronic advancements, you won't have a problem at all digging into this mesmerizing musical experience. Definitely one of the most creative works in dance-meet-soul music since Chic's Risque'.

I love Tortured Soul's sound and they've found a fabulous niche for themselves, but unfortunately I don't think this album is as good as their first one. It's still good, but the songs just aren't as catchy.
