Success did not come easily for Deana. A year and a half before this album was released, she had one released in the UK, but it was not released in the USA. This album contains three of the tracks from that album together with eight new songs. Even so, the record company didn’t put too much effort into promoting the album until its first single, Strawberry wine became an unexpected country number one hit. Other hits followed and this album became a multi-mullion seller in America. Curiously, it was never released in the UK, but plenty of Deana’s British fans imported it anyway.
This is one of the few albums from which just about any track could have been a single, so it is hard to pick out highlights. Several of the songs are upbeat, but even those songs that are about breaking up tend to minimise any sadness. The result is an album that is very uplifting, emphasising life’s pleasures and not worrying too much about the setbacks.
The amusing title track is about a woman whose man seems to be more interested in TV and beer than in her, but she just laughs it off, knowing that he’s not going to change. To the other side is about a woman who has lost her man but is now managing to forget him. We danced anyway is a fun song about being in foreign land where a couple don’t know the songs but they still dance. Count me in is about a woman who is interested in love if it is enjoyable, but not otherwise. Strawberry wine is about the first taste of love.
This was one of the best country albums of the nineties, with pop and folk influences but still rooted in country.

This was Deana's debut album that was released in '96 and it's still the most popular with her fans. And it's easy to see why!
The whole album has a light-hearted, easy going feel to it.Where each song flows nicely through the album.
First off it includes her big hit and signature song Strawberry Wine, this is such a great song. There's also some catchy uptempos like I've Loved Enough To Know,If This Is Love,How Do I Get There and the very witty and title track Did I Shave My Legs For This, loads of women will easily relate to this one!
But the standouts are the beautiful ballads Love Ain't Worth Making and Before We Ever Heard Goodbye, this in particular is one of the more country songs on the album, which she does a fantastic job on.
Deana wrote 6 of the 11 tracks. Her voice has a sweet, innocent quality to it that reminds me of Shawn Colvin.
A great pop/country album that you can relax and enjoy.

I love the title track on this album so much - it is such a truth for so many people I know - you'll smile and cry as you listen

Great album. Bonus of having no hairy legged pictures on the product.

This album is alright in fact I do quite like it however there are better. I feel that a lot of the tunes are a little old and her style could do with an update. The basics are all there and it is not truly terrible but I really would advise surfing the country pages and finding something a little better, like Dolly!
