Korn - "Oildale"

Biography

KoЯn will never forget where they came from: a dark place where salvation arrives in the form of twisted, throbbing guitar riffs, syncopated chaotic funk beats, a schizophrenic bass thump and an unmistakable cathartic howl. Emerging from the depths of Bakersfield, California with a sound unlike any other in 1994, Korn have been able to cement themselves as one of the most important bands ... Did My Time single is a real grower, it's heavy, down-tuned and brilliant! As for B-Sides, a mixed bag, Re-Mix ( woo-hoo! ) is a bit pants! But the cover of One by Metallica from MTV:Icon.. . . . . . . . . WOW Metallica are the best and thier tune brings out the best in KoRn! Classic!

Ok here's how it starts...
Korn's 2002 album "Untouchables" didn't sell very well...however
i loved every track on it but number 2, but "Untouchables" didn't appeal very well to the people, it sold absolutely nothing compared to their first ever debut self titled album, Life is Peachy, Follow the Leader or Issues....but now
KoRn have had enough! they don't care about silly producers any more, they don't care about the critics or stupid magazine reviews, all they are caring about right now are us, the KoRn fans and their 6th album "Take a Look in the Mirror" rumoured to be released on the 26th of October 2003 is still in production....and guess who's producing it? KORN!
guess who is writin all of the music, editin and adding effects to it? KORN
and with his brand new single "Did My Time", KoRn seem to be back at their full potential, the song it self is enough to rip ur head off with it's low tuned rippin guitar riffs, heavy bass slaps, aggressive Lyrics and thumpin drum beats to knock u out of ur seat...
yes KoRn are back and this new single sounds like a mixture between their stuff from 1994 and 1998...sound good? well if you don't think so then you might like this...there are 3 tracks in the single...Did My Time (Album Version), Did My Time (Grayedout Remix) and One performed at the Metallica Icon, Remastered at the 5.1 Surround sound just for the single, even tho the remix sounds a bit lame in the beginnin and soun too much like the original, it's still a KoRn song and it's still worth listenin to...

Did My Time is the first single from KoRn's follow up to 2002's Untouchables. It's in the same vein as KoRn's earlier material, but you can hear a bit of all the previous albums in there too. The band, individually and together, is at it's best in this track.
The Grayedout Mix like many of KoRn's remixes doesn't stray too far from the normal version and like many of KoRn's remixes, it's not all that good of a remix either. It's not bad, but far too much like the normal version.
'One', which in my opinion is even better than the original by Metallica, is reason enough for you to buy the CD - even if it isn't the full version.

With this release of 'Did My Time', the first song off their follow up to 'untouchables', said to be called 'Take a look in the mirror' is absolutely awesome. The remix is kinda average and sounds too similar to the original but i guess thats the same with all of KoRns remixes. The brilliant cover of Metallica's 'One' is amazing but unfortunatly the song ends just as the huge guitar solo would be starting.

OK, can somebody tell me the trajectory that went from Blind to this? Go on, it's a challenge - I mean, this is a totally dull, uninspiring track from the band that made me realise maybe Life Is Peachy wasn't all that bad...for the basic reason that had three decent tracks on it, while this has the single (dull), a remix (duller), and a cover of Metallica's "One" (dullard).
Just because it's taken from a soundtrack isn't an excuse: Kick the PA from the Spawn soundtrack was quality, even if the End of Days and IKWYDLS efforts were very poor indeed, but once again I worry that another relaunch is needed, as they've done all they can with the Issues-Untouchables style material, and the death gasp was this.
Heck, even the most recent Limp Bizkit single stayed in the memory longer than this, and that's quite possibly the most damning comment that can be made.
Better hope the album ups the quality a few stars, eh? Well, it couldn't do much worse, could it?
