The biggest issue with this book is that all the characters (bar one) are so horrible and un-relatable.
The character of Sarah spends the whole book making pretty stupid decisions and then moaning and wallowing in self pity, without any real thought for anyone else's feelings. If she was my friend I think I'd give her a slap and tell her to get over herself before moving away and changing my phone number! The character of Nick is just a ridiculous walking cliche of the "bad boy" regurgitated from millions of half rate romance books, and reproduced without any apparent redeeming features. In fact the only decent character is Sarah's poor boyfriend, who is a perfectly nice character with a strong belief system, who is made out to be extremely irritating and in the wrong (I struggled to find fault with him anywhere, and couldn't really work out why none of the other characters liked him..!)
As for the obligatory "happy ending" err.. where was this? It just left me feeling empty. The sheer predictability and selfish attitude of all the characters made me mightily annoyed!

I love Marion Keys and Sophie Kinsella, I'm a massive unashamed fan of "chick-lit" but I thought that this book was full of didgy cliché, and the characters were all about as deep as puddles. I also thought it was really badly written. All the short, unnecessary sentences drove me crazy, and by the time I'd struggled to the end I was hoping that the would be some kind of reward, but was left vastly dissappointed.

My advise - don't waste your time on this book!

What can I say! I totally loved this book. At first I wasn't too sure & only read a couple of chapters a night here & there but in the end I couldn't put it down & stayed up until twenty past one in the morning just to finish it! There were some funny bits which made me laugh out loud & there were some bits which actually bought a tear to my eye. I like how some chapters go back in time as opposed to having the character just reminiscing about it. I finished it yesterday morning & started reading it from the beginning again last night!! It was a great read & I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys this type of book & wants a light read which soon becomes addictive.

I was given the book by accident, but it's a good read if not my usual cup of tea. My copy has disappeared now as it very popular with friends and family, maybe one day it will return to sit on my bookshelf again.

I am a 'chick lit' expert! I can read 6 on a two-week holiday BUT this book is the BEST I've read in years and years!
Absolutely fantastic! 'The bad thing' she thought she had done (I won't give it away), was written with such empathy- I know, it's happened to me. The "looking backward" chapters worked so well. The characters were totally believable and the twists in their lives were true to them and not beyond the realms of possibility.
The times I've read a book and been left in disbelief, feeling let down or that couldn't possibly have happened etc are numerous - but not this book. Never in my life have I done what I'm doing now but I have just finished it and felt I've got to let others know. This book will NOT be given away to the charity shop but lent out with my name written in BOLD on the front cover- I want it back or else!!
Bring on the next book please?

this is my least favourite of the 3 current published books of linda green but id still deffiently recomend it. the plot has some twists and turns. to me i related to the characters easily. you feel for the character and the internal struggle. your head tells you what you think should happen and the ending to the book wasnt what i expected. it was still a great read. dark and funny and will pull at the heart strings while at the same time making life seem a rosier place.

With reference to the previous reviewer saying it wasn't such a bad thing - isn't that the whole point. The fact that she is imprisoned by her guilt and is unable to view it objectively since it has been the basis of her current identity. To recognise that it wasn't that bad would be to forgive herself and she doesn't trust herself enough to do that. This isn't a genre I often real, I was bought this book and found it an enjoyable read (although uncomfortable in the darker places). I'd always found that only men were allowed to write light hearted books about relationships that also gave you something to think about (e.g. Nick Hornby) I'm pleased to find a thinking chicks chick flick!

I was curious about the title of this book and was looking for something not to serious to read. The book was funny (but sad in places). It was an easy read, I read in three days as I wanted to know what the bad thing was. If you like Marion Keyes, Jane Green, Sophie Kinsella you will probably like this.

From some of the reviews here and the blurb I expected so much more. Found the heroine utterly dislikeable, the hero a coward (no spoilers but if he had a bit more guts in the first place none of this would have happened)and the heroine's poor boyfriend I just felt sorry for - I didn't think his eco-obsession was hilarious at all, it was a bit pathetic. A feel-bad book, everyone in it was so vile I felt nothing but relief to come to its end
