Product Description

Review

'It is not often that a book in this controversial field of human origins takes seriously both the Bible (in terms of textual exegesis, literary form, and heological coherence) and science (in terms of its findings and its theoretical possibilities). Jack Collins does both with graciously applied scholarship, conviction, and humility, making very clear where biblical faithfulness requires us to be uncompromisingly affirmative, and where there is room for varying opinion over possible scenarios that could be consistent with such biblical conviction.' --Christopher J. H. Wright, International Director, Langham Partnership International; author, 'The Mission of God'

'Few scholars are better equipped than Professor C. John Collins to provide a well-informed, up-to-date assessment of what may and may not be known about Adam and Eve. With clarity, Collins offers a balanced discussion of the relationship between Genesis 2-3 and current theories on the origins of the human race. Recognizing the limitations of human knowledge, he highlights the vital contribution made by the Genesis account for understanding the human predicament. Marked by both erudition and sanity, here is a book worth reading.' --T. Desmond Alexander, Senior Lecturer in Biblical Studies and Director of Postgraduate Studies, Union Theological College, Belfast

'I could hardly imagine a more honest book on this controversial topic. Its openness (in a user-friendly format) is no naivety - it is combined with undeniable competence on the ancient Near East, recent literature, and methodological discussions. Standing firm on vital issues, accepting diversity on others, the reader meets in C. John Collins a sensitive and godly guide.' --Henri A. Blocher, formerly Gunther Knoedler Professor of Systematic Theology, Wheaton College Graduate School

Product Description

We need a real Adam and Eve if we are to make sense of the Bible and of life, argues C. John Collins. Examining the biblical storyline from creation to fall to redemption and final consummation as the worldview story of the people of God, Collins shows how that story presupposes a real Adam and Eve and how human experience points to the same conclusion.

Collins's goal is to enable readers to think through the issues for themselves. His analysis will strengthen confidence that the traditional Christian story equips us better than any alternatives to engage with life as it is actually encountered in the modern world.

Here comes a robust engagement of life and science, controversy, scripture and apologetics. Collins' achieves engagement, possiblity, confidence, life and empowerment to think through the issues for themselves. His analysis will strengthen confidence that the orthodox faith journey of the Christ follower is strong enough to withstand contemporary rational attacks. The humanity, dignity and wisdom offered is tremendously effective and utterly unique.

Sadly this may only have a limited readership as, substantive footnotes, technical language and subject matter, may be a distance from the mainstream market. Full of conviction, clarity and wisdom espically around the Genesis 2 and 3 narrative.
Digestable and distinctive!

Biblical, Christ-Centered and Helpful look at living and dying well tot he glory of God 31 Mar 2011
By Dave J. Jenkins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
O Love that will not let me go: Facing death with courageous confidence in God is edited by Nancy Guthrie. Nancy Guthrie is a conference speaker, bible teacher and author of many books. This book is a collection of articles, essays and sermons by a collection of writers such as Drs. Packer, Horton, Piper, Lyod-Jones, Calvin, Warfield Sproul, Kuyper, Luther Keller, Owen, and Edwards, along with contributions by Joseph Bayly, Randy Alcorn, John Eaves, Jeremy Taylor, Thomas Boston, R.L. Dabney, Charles Spurgeon and Richard Sibbes.

Death is not a topic that many people like talk about or even think about. Thinking about death is helpful for the believer. Thinking about death is helpful because it helps the believer live a Christ-centered life. It helps them live a Christ-centered life because it keeps them centered on the work of Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. Thinking about death is helpful because it helps the believer think through what kind of legacy he/she wants to leave behind when he/she dies.

This collection of essays will help you to think through death biblically. It will help you to face the difficult reality of death through the lens of Christ's finished work. It will help you to live and die for the sake of the Gospel. Regardless of where the reader is at age wise or in one's walk with God this book will help you. I encourage you to pick it up and read and learn about how to live and die well to the glory of God.

I have now read this book 2 times. I have bought 5 copies and given away. Eventually we all must face the subject -death - with our own impending or that of a close friend or family member. What an encouraging and uplifting book that does help me understand what the Bible says about death. The writer(s) obviously communicate their confidence in Jesus Christ and help us to live and die well to the glory of God.
