1.0 out of 5 stars Completely useless - not recommended 8 Nov 1999
Format:Paperback
The author of this book obviously has no REAL knowledge of islamic names. He just seems to have collected a list of names without actually knowing the gender or real meanings of the names. He has placed MANY names which are UNDOUBTEDLY feminine in the male names section and vice versa. I feel very sorry for any one unfamilar with islamic names (i.e converts to islam ) who will end up giving their sons a girls name or vice versa....

1.0 out of 5 stars Not recommended 29 Oct 2003
Format:Paperback
From what I gather it seems to be obvious that the authur has been rather irrisponsible in gathering information. they could be quite misleading from those of not familiar with Islam.(in agreement with the previous comment). Maybe he should be reminded that there is NO muslim name Derived from PERSIAN.Although many muslims inside Iran/(Persia) or Pakistan,India ,Afghanistan, Tajikistan or some certain Arab countries have indeed Persian names, but the fact of the matter is that almost all of the persian names have existed far before Islam and one should seek the origins in OTHER religions such as Zoroastrianism or Mithraism as these were Iran's main religion at the time. Muslim names have been taken from Arabic.

P.S To reply to the Previous comment: some names are indeed used by a differend gender as you move from a country to another. I know for a fact that Akram is a feminine name in Iran for example.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but by no means comprehensive 26 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This contains a very good precis of the structure and importance of the meaning of Muslim names at the start. However, quite a few names have been omitted, although the book does not claim to be comprehensive, and some of the meanings given are rather unrefined. Overall a useful resource though it could do with some additions.
