5.0 out of 5 stars An Excelent Source - Highly Recommended 20 Feb 2000
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I find myself returning again and again to this work. It provides practical information about all the herbs you will find in your local health store (and many more besides). An excelete source for anyone using, or wanting to use, herbs for health and healing.

I purchased this book after borrowing one from the library. It has been the most dependable source of information for my recovery. I have been suffering food and chemical toxicity for twenty years(undiagnosed until one year ago prompted by my own investigations) and although I had already gleaned some ideas for recovery from the internet this book followed all the principles I obtained from the immunological, gatroenterological, neurotoxicological and physiological web sources. I cannot emphasise the value of this tome enough. It is marvellous that information exists other than that available from GP's which I found to be nil or plain verbal abuse. This book is for those who believe in their own life and health and don't just want to entrust these to GP's who basically only offer palliative care or ignorance.

This book is good for students of herbal medicine who need to look up terms when studying. It probably won't suit the reader who wants a very detailed resource on herbal medicine. But it is a handy dictionary of the main points, for all associated or interested in herbal medicine.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have herbal book 9 Nov 2000
By M. Wood - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I am so impressed with this book that I really recommend it to anyone interested in herbal medicine. It is very easy to use as it is arranged alphabetically (as the title of dictionary suggests) and it allows you to look up either the common or botanical name of the plant and gives all the essential information regarding the properties, appearance, habitat, actions and usages (including dosage). The book is definitely an asset to any personal reference library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Logical and Sensible 13 Sep 2010
By Selima - Published on Amazon.com

This marvelous book , written in dictionary style , is a must have for any herbalist's collection . It gives clear and scientific information on various conditions that herbs can help remedy ; and solid definitions of many common ( and a few less so ) herbs , their appearance , function , uses , and most importantly dosages . An excellent find for anyone looking for a no nonsense book filled to the gills with easy access info . No pictures for the more visual individual , or folklore for entertaining one's mind ; but on the upside that makes the book more compact and readily usable . An excellent guide and reference that is well worth any money put on it .
