So, I'm a Doctoral candidate in film, and I've basically been in academia most of my adult life, in that time I've seen several media/film dictionaries, most of which are ok but all too often not nearly comprehensive enough. This one is fantastic, geeky I know, but I loved seeing the word 'discredited' in some of the definitions - it's all too easy to see a theory or phrase defined and use it without realising the wider context. That it links with the web is also really useful pointing you to reputable sites that you may have overlooked in your research. All in all, a good buy, I'd thoroughly recommend it.

This dictionary is itself a real achievement, covering a very wide range of words and phrases whilst offering fantastically detailed definitions. Having had the book just a few weeks, I've already found it to be invaluable - either offering me the opportunity to confirm my understanding and use terminology more confidently, or when venturing into new territory and needing to get a handle on unfamiliar words.

This dictionary will definitely take prime place on my desk and I will be recommending it to my students.

Being a current student of Media and Communication studies, this book is such a helpful tool to improve my studies. Sometimes the terminology within Media and Communications can be a bit tricky to understand or remember therefore this book is a lifesaver! I reckon this book will feature in the references within all my essays! Its truely brilliant! :)
