as a teacher, and student of BSL this book is invaluable. The illustrations and clear explanations make this a must have for all people interested in communicating with others in BSL.

This very large book (too heavy to carry around) is invaluable for the learner and experienced signer.
The photos are of very good quality and descriptive text well put and easy to understand. The signs are mainly BSL with multi-channel signs being included.
Dont be out off buying this book due to its high price compared to other sign language books, this is a real investment. You will find it usefull and acurate.

This book is a mine of information. The 57 handshapes are clearly demonstrated, the notation of the signs is explained in detail, and the reader is shown how to look up signs seen but previously not understood.

A marvellous book indeed. Quite possibly the only book on BSL that you'll ever need. There are a vast number of signs covered, each with photographic, textual and technical notation. That is probably the main reason for buying this book. However, for those seeking to beyond Stage 1 and really learn "about" BSL rather than just learning signs, the book has over 130 pages of information. Some of it can be quite 'technical' (accounts of grammatical features for example) but that just adds to the value of the book. Not cheap but certainly something that will serve you well for years to come.

This is a worthwhile book, but you need to understand that it doesn't just cover the area that you live in. It covers all signs from all over the UK.
I would recommend anyone who's learning BSL to get it.

This must be one of the best books to have for all signers. Its like a huge thesaurus and dictionary all in one. It s my bible as i am learning level two BSL and it comes out every lesson i have!

Invest in time to find your way around Dictionary of BSL and it will last for years. What a fantastic resource. Making it easier, I prepared A -Z coloured tabs and put them on the index at the back. More coloured tabs on the references numbers for the handshapes through out the book. At the front I put plain tabs to identify the different sections. That done, it takes no time at all to find and refer to a word and sign you looking for.

I would not recomend this book to anybody as it is so hard to follow, i bought the book for a new sign language course i had started but this book is ov no use what so ever!

Fantasticly descriptive and easy to use!
