dickie roberts, 29 Aug 2004
When i got Dickie Roberts on video, i got my sister (who is 5 years younger) to watch it with me, and we definately give the film a huge thumbs up. She watches it more than I do and takes it to her friends houses so they can watch it too! The cast put on a great humorous performance, especially David Spade who was loveable as the confused, stubborn and clueless Dickie Roberts. Many people will also love Jack and Sally, the kids who reluctantly help Dickie relive his childhood, and also get help from him for their problems. There wasn't any scenes that we wanted to skip, there was something to entertain everyone - from the dance routines, dickie's accidents, memorable one liners, to the song at the end featuring many child stars from much loved shows such as happy days, saved by the bell, diff'rent strokes, the brady bunch, etc. (trust me, its a funny catchy song). I definately recommend this film for people of all ages, or at least for parents to buy to keep their kids entertained for a long time.

Brilliant!, 4 Jun 2006
This is a brilliant and incredibly underrated film which people of all ages will love, filled with great jokes, a strong storyline, high-quality acting and the required feel-good, lesson-learned happy ending.
David Spade shines in a role he was made for (possibly because he wrote most of it himself!) and his transformation from jaded, desperate, self-obsessed former child star to a genuinely warm-hearted, great guy who can finally handle real life is brilliantly done.
The humour in this film is cracking - there's some light slapstick for the kids and some brilliant slightly self-aware or snide jokes that older kids and adults will love, but it's never sleazy.
The support actors are great too - the kids are hilarious, never annoying as those in family films often are, and the married couple on-the-edge-of-divorce are great, with the husband being the kind of guy we all love to hate. Alyssa Milano (from Charmed) also does some brilliant acting as the bitchy ex-girlfriend of Dickie. Cameos from people like Brendan Fraser and Leif Garrett are also highlights.
If you've already seen the film and liked it, it's worth getting the DVD too, for the very amusing special features, which span approximately 4 hours and include deleted scenes, television programmes about the film, interviews, a gag reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and the funniest commentary I've ever heard by Spade and his best friend/writer Fred Wolfe (although this commentary is probably for adults only!)
A definite must-buy!

great fun, 1 Jun 2007
what we have here kids is a fantastic feel good film that lets david spade be his usual loveable self and play around with other child actors!!!
the general gist is that dickie was great as a kid and then lost it when he grew up...he then has another chance at fame if he can get into the new rob reiner film...the downside is that he needs to experience childhood so he hires a family to put him through his childhood for him
a very silly idea i know but that is how this film works....its very silly and not much else!!! its great fun and fantastic entertainment
if you want something lighter that you and the kids will be able to enjoy then this is worth a shot!!!
