4.0 out of 5 stars Sparky collection 1 Jan 2004
By A Customer
This collection of short stories is well worth the read, and has some very thought-provoking pieces in it. I particularly liked the lightness of touch in Toby Litt's "Rare Books and Manuscripts" and the devastating power of Efe Okogu's "The Train Game" - the book would be worth it just for those two alone (although other stories here are nearly as good!).

On the "down side", I thought the offerings from the big names, such as Maggie Gee and Ben Okri, were distinctly below par, but these didn't detract from the book's overall quality.

Definitely worth buying.

The first collection of short stories compiled by Booktrust. Again some good contributions which made me think it would be possible to write my own.
