Product Description

Greg Heffley, the kid who made "wimpy" cool, is back in this side-splitting sequel based on the second installment of the best-selling book series. Having rid himself of the Cheese Touch, Greg enters the seventh grade with his confidence and friendships intact, and an eye on the new girl in town, Holly Hills. But things have gotten out of hand at home, especially with his big brother, Rodrick, and Greg is about to learn that there may be something even scarier than middle school--his own family.

Special Features:

• Featurettes: My Summer Vacation, My Zoo-Wee Vacation! by Rowley Jefferson and My Magick Summer by Greg Heffley
• Gag reel

From Amazon.co.uk

Brothers aren't supposed to get along, so it should come as no surprise that Greg and his older sibling Rodrick fight continuously. However, their mother has a different idea about what the relationship between two brothers should look like, and she writes a column about it for the local newspaper, so she should know. Never one to let nature take its course, Mum tries a variety of strategies to get the boys to bond--everything from the incentive-driven "mom bucks" to punishing them by leaving them home together for the weekend while the rest of the family heads to the water park. The wild party and ensuing chaos that one would expect when two boys are left home alone happens right on schedule, but so does a surprising development in the boys' relationship with one another. Greg pours his every thought about the difficulties of surviving middle school and living with brothers into his journal in this film, which is based on Jeff Kinney's book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. While it's definitely a different experience to see the cartoon stick figures from the book morph into human forms in the live-action film, director David Bowers and actors Zachary Gordon, Devon Bostick, Robert Capron, and Rachael Harris do a good job of preserving the feel of the book--specifically, how each of the characters is driven by emotion and how they are often overwhelmed by their sense of mental conflict and anguish. Kids frankly state that The Diary of a Wimpy Kid films aren't as good as the bestselling books, but that doesn't mean they don't enjoy the movies or that they won't be clamouring to see them. (Ages 7 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Greg (Zachary Gordon) has moved on to the seventh grade. He hangs out with his wimpy friends. The new girl in school is Holly Hills(Peyton List). She has long blond hair and has captured everyone's attention. Greg's friend Rowley (Robert Capron) says, "She's as pretty as my mom," in an awkward Freudian moment. Greg's parents are the stereotypical embarrassing parents. Greg and his older brother Roderick bond in this film as they share a secret. Roderick (Devon Bostick) who is part of a garage rock band, "Loded Diper"[sic] gives his brother advice on how to get Holly's attention. And there is a talent contest in town...Rachel Harris plays the mom. She is made to look like Tina Fey in a non-threatening way. She like movies were the man chooses the maid over the super model.

The movie contains pranks. The boys misbehave in ways we wish our kids would only misbehave. Good movie for family night entertainment as it was amusing and palatable for adults.

My review is short and sweet. My 8 year old grandson was thrilled with this dvd having already read many of the Wimpy Kid books. Knowing him, he will be watching this over and over again. So to all grandmas out there a great gift to your grandchildren. Finally the mere fact that my grandson did not move from the tv screen for the entire film is recommendation enough.

I got this DVD for my daughter who's aged 11. Although I would say that she's probably the right age to fully appreciate the film, my wife and I also thoroughly enjoyed it and have already watched it twice. Some really funny moments (the bit in the church!) and Rodrick's band Loded Diper always raises a laugh. A great film for all the family and you don't need to have seen the first one either (cos I haven't!)

Having seen the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' and found it funny but boring in places I was ambivalent about seeing this sequel but I was pleasantly surprised and was actually crying with laughter at times. There are some very slapstick scenes but I appreciate that they are needed to appeal to younger children, as some of the subtle humour would be lost on them. I still think that Devon Bostick, who plays Greg's brother Rodrick, is the star of these films and that the rest pass muster. Greg's mother's attempt to encourage Greg and Rodrick to 'bond' mostly has the reverse effect, unsurprisingly. Greg falls for a new girl in his class and is continually humiliated in front of her. Rodrick is absorbed with his band, the revoltingly titled 'Löded Diper' and surprise, a talent show looms. I won't spoil the rest...

I wish someone had told me!!! My daughter had read the book and promised me that there was nothing about any horror movie in it. Can't verify because I haven't read it myself. But my girls (8 and 10) we're terrified of the horror movie that the boys are watching when the parents are out. Why is this not mentioned as a warning???

having already seen and loved the first diary of a wimpy kid, this was just as big a hit as the first, i have four children (ages 10, 9, 6 and 4) and they all enjoyed it (although the 6 yr old said that in the film the boys were watching something on the tv that scared him!) the verdict from the kids was a very good, funny film.
