Product Description

Raised by her father to be a remorseless killer, Darla is trying to reboot her life as a college freshman in a bland Midwestern town.

When a lowlife at her cafeteria job tries to molest her, she's not surprised. When he takes another try and brings a friend, she's not unprepared. But the more she shakes them off, the harder they come back, until Darla's working her way up the org chart of an unsavory local business selling homemade porn cast with unwilling teenagers.

Darla just wants to be left alone, the same way her daddy wanted to be left alone. She's trying to make a normal life where no one needs to die.

But just like they wouldn't let her daddy alone, they can't seem to let Darla alone either. And just like her daddy, Darla has skills she can bring to bear on a difficult situation.

This novella is 36,000 words long.

I think this book was really good and I found it interesting although I think I'll have to read it again as there where bits that I may not have fully taken in. I thought Darla's dad was in prison so towards the ending when you find out where he really is I wash shocked but a good read .

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read 11 Jan 2013

Sassy but vulnerable female lead, action, mystery, adventure, possible love interest and even a touch of humour all in the pot in varying degrees. The slow disclosure of our heroine's background. What is there not to like.
I used to avoid most things American but I'm loving this type of book not readily available prior to the e-book. Bring it on!
Just a few typos but not obtrusive.

Truly enjoyed this book. You really feel for the character. So well written. Loved it. There are some great one liners in here too. A must read in my humble opinion.

This book is full of twist and turns, it also makes you think about words that are said to your children as they grow up and the possible effect it may have on their outcome.

Darla just wants to be left alone. She has had an unconventional upbringing to say the least and she is trying to leave the past behind her.

Working to keep herself at college, Darla hates her job but needs the money. What she doesn't need is hassle from a seedy co-worker who thinks she is an easy target for a nasty little sideline he has in forced teenage porn movies.

What he hasn't realized is that Darla is no ordinary teenager and that killing comes easily to her despite her desire to put her dark and unsavory past behind her.

I enjoyed this book. Not all the characters were as in-depth as I would have liked them to be but Darla came across as both fragile and deadly, and her blossoming friendship with Lucas the son of a family she has been dog sitting for is both sweet and sad.

All in all a good, clean quick read that has the potential for a sequel.
