Book Description

16 July 2009 Diary of a Snob
Poppet Montague-Jones is 15, 87th in line to the British throne and soon to inherit a whopping trust fund. Unlike her sister Kitten - legendary wild child and society columnist in London Alive (see Diary of a Chav), Poppet is a troubled and ill-fitting teenager who is at an impressionable age, and doesn't quite know how to launch herself into the world.

Poppet spends much of her time daydreaming and getting bossed about by her flamboyant school friends, Vixen Blaze Brocklehurst and Striker Earhart. Between them, the girls get up to all sorts of high jinks a la St Trinians at school and in their stinkingly rich 'hood', not giving much thought to their future. They're rich, so who cares! Poppet's Mum Saskia has her future in hand anyway: a career in fashion and marriage to nice, loaded, Felix Hayes Burlington across the road.

Thing is, Poppet is not entirely sure it's what she really wants. Isn't there more to life than charity lunches and yoga? Is Poppet destined for a life of designer grunge and decadence without lifting a finger to earn her own living, or is she brave enough to break out of the mould?

Review

Grace Dent (Diary of a Snob) was interviewed in the magazine about her 'Seven Secrets for Survival'

It was a full page article but she touched on Don't let other people's advise shape your life, accept that you'll never make everybody like you, stay on good terms with your mother, don't have 'guilty pleasures', it's mostly how you look and not what you say, remember that everything passes and finally never lose your sense of humour.

About the Author

Grace Dent is one of the hottest names in teen fiction right now. No other author nails how young people REALLY speak and behave. In fact, the many 1000s of SBW fans refuse to believe that the vivid Essex sensation is a fictional character! Grace says: '....kids who claim to have never read anything longer than a text message are ploughing through my books nagging for the for the next one. This makes me insanely proud.' Grace is a comedy writer and broadcaster specialising in all aspects of 'Pop Culture'. She is a presenter on The Culture Show on BBC2 and has recently interviewed Mitchell and Webb and the cast of Gavin and Stacey. She lives in East London with her husband, who works in the music industry. When she's not writing comedy Grace is to be found 'faffing about on the internet' or 'faffing about in the garden or kitchen' or 'just 'faffing about generally. I'm an excellent faffer.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Sooooo funny 7 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
This was such a good book filled with hilarious insights into Poppets life at school and with her friends. Poppet is very very distantly related to the queen and set to inherit a HUGE trust fund but she battles against the normal teenage troubles with her (slightly mad) friends Striker and Vixen.
Agreat read.
