Product Description

In the sophisticated noughties, so we're told, football hooliganism is a thing of the past. They ought to try telling it to Cardiff City's Real Soul Crew . . . For four decades now, the Cardiff boys have been one of the most active football firms to travel the length and breadth of the UK. From the Welsh capital and the valleys to the London grounds of arch-rival firms Spurs and Millwall, the Soul Crew have made their presence felt - challenging all comers but never, they insist, taking on anyone who wasn't asking for a fight in the first place. Published in a new professionally designed and edited compendium volume, the grassroots cult books of Cardiff fan Abraham are presented between one cover for the first time. From tear-ups at local derbies to time spent in a continental jail, the author chronicles his fellow fans' trials and tribulations - as well as their triumphs.

About the Author

Annis Abraham Jnr. is a lifelong Cardiff supporter with deep-rooted connections to his club. The son of a self-made millionaire of direct Egyptian descent, he has not merely been a fan or (allegedly) a hooligan, but also an entrepreneur who has sponsored Cardiff's players, kits, vehicles, match balls and programmes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Diary of the Real Soul Crew, 17 Oct 2008
In my opinion a very good read and unlike other hooligan books it doesn't glorify violence and also with a couple of exceptions the writers are all diehard CCFC fans who do not fit the stereotypical hooligan image-i.e. they go for the football and are not your top boy hoolies like the authors of some other books. Unlike other books it never claims that cardiff are invincible (Andrew Tooze please take note).

The most amusing chapter was Gwyn's Victory in Chesterfield-written with typical valleys humour. Big Sams 'Hooligans in Uniform' was good describing ott policing and criticising the egg chasing media-a chapter that all real cardiff fans can equate too. I particularly enjoyed Geran Shepherds Dont mention the war part-great humour from a german-the wolves away part being interesting along with the West Ham ICF (I chuck fruit) story.

I thought that Gillys chapter was a waste of ink-nothing really said apart from his respect for CCFC-no stories or anything.

Personally i would recommend it for CCFC fans as it captures a large part of the CCFC culture and cammeradare over the last 30 years and it shows that the majority of football lads are decent people with morals and values like the rest of us.

This book along with Shattered Dreams is like the literary version of Jonathan Owen's FA Cup Diary-in other words they capture the passion of following CCFC.

Well done Annis and the authors. 9/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Soul Crew, 16 Oct 2010
This review is from: Diary of the Real Soul Crew - The Complete Chronicles (Paperback)
Like others reviewers I've seen the Soul Crew up close and personal. It is easy to say we did this or that but you can very easily get caught out when others who were around at the time say that is not how I remember things. This is a book that recalls events pretty well spot on. While it would be wrong to say everything is 100% the events that I witnessed that are covered are pretty much bang on, and that is good enough for me.

The book charts the rise and some falls of the Cardiff City Soul Crew from its earliest days right up until very recent times. It is well worth a read for anyone that is interested in Terrace Culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent book, 2 Oct 2010
This review is from: Diary of the Real Soul Crew - The Complete Chronicles (Paperback)
Having been on the scene myself and an avid reader of hooli books, this book caught my eye as it was written by ANNIS who is well known and respected. He captured his and our memories of the 70's and 80's scene and didn't glorify it.!! He even got rival lads to add their replies and cut no corners. I didn't have much to do with Cardiff in the early days being a West Ham fan but i heard many stories which have been verified in this book.
