5.0 out of 5 stars IS THIS THE ANSWER TO WHO WAS JACK THE RIPPER AT LAST?, 21 Jun 2001
By
Paula Lees "ladybrum" (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Diary of Jack the Ripper (Paperback)
There have been so many books written over the years, with so many different theories on who was Jack the Ripper, but can this book possibly be the answer to that on going question? One of the most important facts that emerges while reading this chilling account of a madman's diary, is that all the events, killings and locations seem to tie in perfectly with all the relevant known facts about the case. Also intruiging, is the aspect that this book relates to James Maybrick as not only being the Ripper, but also leads us into another famous case of his wife Florence, who was accused and ultimately found guilty of poisening her husband (James) with arsenic. Which then points you in the direction of wanting to read all about Florence, her life with Maybrick, the trial and her inprisonment. Seemingly, this 'diary' seems to have it all, but can any of us really know for certain who was Jack the Ripper? While you may not be totally convinced that Maybrick was in fact the Whitechapel murderer, it is without a shadow of a doubt an engrossing book to read and well worth purchasing. Personally, it is such an interesting account of one mans diabolical behaviour and ultimate self destruction that you will re-read this book many times over. Whether this book is absolute fact or fiction do not miss the opportunity of at least reading this story once.

5.0 out of 5 stars THe genuine article, 2 Oct 2010
By
John Donovan (Germany) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I read this when it was first published and found it absolutely convincing, even when 'Ripperologists' started screaming fake I was still convinced but doubts had been raised so I kept trying to find out whether it was a hoax, eventually I found a book that proves it was the real deal. If you doubt this is genuine just read 'Jack the Ripper-The Final Chapter' by Paul H Feldman to lay your doubts to rest. It's amazing how people (i.e. mainly Ripperologists looking to make a buck out of a book claiming Jack the Ripper is a mortuary attendant never heard of before) still try to refute it. I suppose I would as well if I made a chunk of my income each year from selling Ripper books. Case solved.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only for those with an open mind, 23 Jan 2004
By A Customer
I really enjoyed this book but then i am one of those people who loves reading anything about Jack the Ripper. I felt there was a lot in here to pursuade you of the possibility this really was Jack's diary. the pictures were a useful addition but i do think there should have been more debate as to whether this really could have been genuine. It felt to me that the author wanted to believe and this clouded the judgement somewhat. All in all though i felt this was an interesting read, opening up a different avenue for debate. I liked the fact that there were pictures of the actual diary that you could read through, along with a transcript for those that struggled witht he old fashioned writing.
