Book Description

25 July 2007
Diana was the world's most photographed woman in the 1980s and 90s. Her every outfit was scrutinized, criticised, admired and endlessly copied, her every fashion choice enormously influential. But it was only towards the end of her life that she found her own, true style and the panache and confidence to flaunt it. How did the shy, Sloane nanny in a chiffon skirt become a rock chick fashion icon who kicked into touch the concept of frosty aristocratic hauteur, while remaining demure and striking in Versace, Walker, Edelstein, Choo and Blahnik? What were her influences? Who were the designers that dressed her? What were the outfits that made her? And how was her dress a reflection of her times? Here, Colin McDowell has written a definitive, well-researched and intelligent book on Diana and her influence on society, attitudes and fashion. This title is lavishly illustrated throughout with over a hundred rare and striking images, including original sketches from Valentino, Bruce Oldfield and Roland Klein.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning tribute 30 July 2007
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Diana made fashion her own forte while claiming it 'wasn't her thing'. She was a natural with clothes and this book goes to show why. She had was the perfect body to show her clothes and the grace to carry them off. Designers fell over themselves to have her wear their latest fashions and this book is an overview of Diana's progression from 'Shy Di' through young princess to the worlds most dazzling woman. Using stunning images and more unusual photos of the princess, plus informative writing, the author tells the story of Diana's growing confidence in her fashion style, from the over fussy to the streamlined clothes she wore through the years, her natural style meant that, quite symply, she became one of the worlds most elegant woman. A beautiful volume that will become a classic of its kind.

If you loved Diana for her fashion, you will love this book. Lovely pictures and text, very interesting, much better than a biography where the facts are doubtful. Highly recommend.
