Diana's 1976 album was certainly varied;from the lovely ballads (and hits)'Theme from Mahogony' and 'I Thought It Took A Little Time' to the pure vaudeville''Kiss Me Now'.However the whole lp was dwarfed by the incredible nearly 8 minutes of 'Love Hangover' where Miss Ross whoops and moans with wild abandon creating a masterpiece which still sounds incredible today.
This excellent Hip-o Select reissue contains loads of alternate versions of the tracks from the album plus some unreleased ones (it was reported that Diana left 300 completed unissued masters when she left Motown (for the first time)in 1981)including a take on Elton John's 'Harmony' and yet another version of 'Love Hangover' (NOT the version first included on the expanded 'Diana (1980)' for you collectors).
As i said earlier,the schizophrenic nature of the album does work well and i still can never understand why the brilliant 'One Love In My Lifetime' (single version) was never a UK hit.Can we have an expanded version of 'Baby It's Me' soon please?

Format:Audio CD
The remastering on this reissue is awesome. It sounds as if you are inside the music. There is little to say about the original album;it is simply brilliant. The alternate takes are a revelation, especially 'Love Hangover' which is rawer, the sound sparser, and of the unreleased tracks, the cover of Elton John's 'Harmony' is as great as the original, 'Le Lo Li' is a playful slice of West Coast soul, and the funky 'Go Where Your Mind Is' wouldn't have been out of place on 'Diana & Marvin'. I had reservations about an interview being tagged onto the end of disc 2, but it is great to hear Miss Ross talking at what was the pinnacle of her career. As with all Hip-o-Select reissues, the packaging is gorgeous. Don't hesitate, snap this cd up while you can, because in a few months it will be going for a small fortune!

I bought this record in 1976 and have played the vinyl which I still have from time to time ever since.
The instrumental work on this record is Motown at its best along with Diana's delicate vocal and so this remastered CD I purchased with considerable trepidation feeding the gorgeous sound would become brittle as so often happens when the sound is forced on remastered CD's.
Not so... The intro to "I thought it took a little time" for instance has all the beautiful nuances of bass, drums and space that I loved on the original only clearer.
This remastered CD album is a sheer delight.
