From Amazon.co.uk

It's been said that Diana Krall is a more successful recording artist than she is a live performer, yet Live in Paris seems to have captured the best of both worlds. Krall has evolved into a performer of extraordinary intensity. She treats what is essentially a set of jazz vocal standards as a kind of musical performance poetry which reflects the subtlest nuance of every lyric; while her dark, seemingly effortless contralto is a near-perfect jazz instrument. This performance features Krall's regular band plus a vast orchestra that tends to detract (and subtract) from her under-rated piano playing, but there are still any number of highlights, such as "All or Nothing at All" and "'S Wonderful".

On the DVD: the additional features on this 16:9 DVD (which has stereo, DTS and Dolby surround audio options and which is PS2 compatible) are mostly excellent. The rehearsal footage is almost better than the concert, and some of Krall's interpretations bring knowing smiles to the faces of some of the female members of the orchestra. Of the two rather MTV-friendly video features, the first (for "The Look of Love") is superb; while the second (for "Let's Face the Music and Dance"), all aggressive lighting and nasty makeup, has Krall clumping around like a big-boned drag queen, but it's really the only fault in an otherwise perfect release. --Roger Thomas

I recently purchased this DVD of Diana Krall, expecting it to be good and despite already having most of the tracks featured on this DVD on her CD'S. I sat down on the evening it arrived and pressed the "GO" button. From that moment on and for the next two hours, if a hurricane had ripped through my living room, I swear that I would not have noticed - everything around me (including the kids) just melted away into the background. The 5.1 sound reproduction on this DVD is the best I've heard yet, with an unbelievable clarity, particularly on vocals and Bass player. The depth and breadth of sound is fantastically balanced. The tracks are live, so Ms. Krall spices them up a little which distinguishes them from the CD recordings but without spoiling her original recording style and there are longer periods of Jazz instrumental sections. As for the visuals; the camera shots and angles make this DVD fantastic to watch too, always managing to keep your attention, with close ups of Ms. Krall and shots panning all of the musicians, including the violinists in the orchestra. Ms. Krall makes brief introductions too which means that the 2 hours viewing is maximised with musical content instead of too much "blah blah". The colours are rich, with the stage background (drapes) changing from red to blue. I could describe this DVD for hours. I am entranced every time I play it. Just buy it !

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! 4 May 2004
Format:DVD
Everything from the camera shots to the surround sound is brilliantly done. The passion of the musicians, especially during solos is fantastic. I was a bit disappointed with some of the track selection however, theres no fly me to the moon, charmed life etc
Must have!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous.... 19 Oct 2003
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
If you’re a jazz fan then this DVD is an absolute must. The musicianship and orchestration are first class as is the production on this disc. Diana Krall’s interpretations of these classic songs are in my view often better than the original renditions. It’s wonderful to see musicians so obviously enjoying themselves – the whole experience, particularly if you have the benefit of surround sound, is totally captivating and leaves you feeling on a high!
Definitely a 10 Star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost a perfect gig? 14 July 2006
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
The DVD is remarkable - live concerts seldom record this well in any form. The intensity of feeling generated on this show is fantastic - kind of sums up what jazz can be like when it is good. Who - for God's sake - wrote the Amazon review? Dark contralto... subtle nuances.... suspect the culprit didn't really understand what he/she was asked to review. They should get out more. This is a great DVD - if you like Ms Krall or have any fondness for fine performances of the American Standard Repertoire then you should buy this. It's a classic. And yes - thank you - we did realise she plays the piano too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diana Krall at her best 28 May 2002
Format:DVD
Absolutely wonderful. The concert covers 17 songs and ends with an encore played solo, which is very sensual and moving, the best song on the DVD. A lot of fine play of Diana on the Steinway and especially the almost 11 minutes long "I don't know enough about you" is a nice example of her talent. The DVD shows also some Paris atmosphere, which is not my cup of tea.
Not only for fans a absolute must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! 6 April 2002
By A Customer
Format:DVD
This DVD is fantastic! Diana Krall and her musicians are at their best and are captured in fabulous clarity in Dolby Digital 5.1. The film of the concert reveals the bond between the musicians and captures the atmosphere of Paris well. The editing is first class and the whole package is excellent value. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Honey...Deed I Do 10 April 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Not only can Diana Krall play fine jazz piano and sing on this on this dvd, she has the added bonus and back up of a superb rhythm section in John Clayton ( bass ) and Jeff Hamilton ( drums ).Add in some excellent jazz guitar and fine runs of Anthony Wilson, along with other first rate musicians and you have a concert which is priceless.Great to hear some of the old standards done really well, the whole thing swings along and it is beautifully filmed, directed and the sound quality is just great.

I agree with all the previous reviewers positive comments, Diana at her best, the tracks, the musicians, the concert, the picture and sound are excellent. For a 'standard' dvd, the video & audio quality is outstanding, not only do I repeatedly enjoy watching and listening to it, but I also use it as a 'demo' for my home cinema set up. Both DD & DTS are crystal clear, the depth & dynamic range is awesome, ( put the crystal glasses away & make sure your neighbours are out!, when John Clayton plucks a bass string, your sub-woofer will love it, but they won't ! ). It's also 16:9 widescreen and picture perfect. I am an avid collector of music DVD's, and I also, have not come across anything close to this picture and sound quality, it gives Blu-Ray a run for it's money. This is a GREAT music DVD with an artist at her best and a superb visual, and 5:1 audio, recording, so if you only buy one music DVD make sure it's this one, and give your eyes a visual treat, and your ears and surround system a full blown Hi-Fi workout!.
