this was originally a 1993 mini-movie for Sky tv, and i remembered watching it so had to buy the dvd - based on andrew mortons book, it is an entertaining film version - laughable at times!!!, but a good portrayal of the book. certainly watch it expecting to raise a laugh or two, and the casting is slightly odd, although david thewlis does an excellent prince charles! if you need a dvd to wile away 2 hours or so,and want to have a chuckle at the supposed lookalike actors (and laugh at kristin scott thomas's awful diana wig at the end) buy it!!!!

I really enjoyed this movie as it bought back memories of this very beautiful and graceful young women who I miss very much. I am not a fan of the royal family, but I always loved Diana and always will.

I rated this as a 5 star as it was comprehensive in the cover of her marriage with the Royals. I love Diana as many did and she was chased to her death regardless of the circumstances the motor bikes were there. Who can not understand unrequited love ? She did indeed love her Prince but she was too young just 19, not able to grasp what this marriage meant. The Royals did not prepare her for the role as they have a much older Catharine for William. It was a ménage au trois. I do believe Charles did love Diana in his own way but he could not communicate with her and they had little in common. It was the times. He had to have a virgin and there were few virgins in their late 20's so I am happy that the Royals have learned from their mistakes. It is worth watching this dvd about Diana and it is I am sure in her own words. Dianna's life was a tragedy. To understand her was to realise she was abandoned by her mother and this transferred to her adult life she felt abandoned and having million loving her from afar would have not helped. SHE WAS SO LONELY something we all have felt at different times in our lives. The public identified with Diana with all her humanness and goodness to others. She caught the public like no other even Catherine as much as everyone loves her and William she comes no where near close to BOTH the magic AND TRAGEDY of DIANA. If Shakespeare was alive he would write a play of her life. I WONDER how she would have been portrayed by Shakespeare ?!!!

DIANA - for anyone who does not know about the strained marriage of Di and Charles this movie probably gives a good indication of the inner turmoil which lay under the public false marital bliss. It appears Di was denied the love and affection she deserved while Charles's interests were more with Polo, state duties, and Camilla. Could it be that all he ever really wanted was simply a figurehead to 'fill the gap' and be the mother of his children. Perhaps love and affection were the last things on his mind.
The movie is interesting, though it seems to end inconclusively in the middle of nowhere when it should have at least carried the story through to the divorce. That would have given the movie more of a sensible climax, rather than the "OK let's stop filming here" one.
The performance of David Threlfall as Charles is BRILLIANT cleverly capturing his sound and mannerisms, likewise the performance of Anne Stallybrass as The Queen. On the other hand the choice of SC Thomas in the main role of Di seems a very bad one and this is the movies great failing. The makers should have scoured the land for the right actress, like they did for the role of Scarlet O'Hara in GONE WITH THE WIND. Somewhere out there is the person who can give a convincing portrayal of Di, and SCT was not the one. KAN

Good story line. But found the acting a little rough around the edges. I felt so sorry for poor Diana. She deserved better.
