Less well-known, however, is Bob Campbell- wildlife photographer and filmmaker whose footage propelled Dian and the mountain gorillas into the international spotlight. Campbell was hired by National Geographic to film Fossey's work and from 1968 to 1972 he shot 70,000 feet of film. Unfortunately, most of it has never been seen. Now, National Geographic is unveiling this extraordinary glimpse into the world of the mountain gorillas and Dian s unique rapport with them in Mountain Gorillas: The Lost Film of Dian Fossey.

This is a perfect DVD containing 2 documentaries to accompany Dian Fossey's book 'Gorillas in the mist'. One word of advice though - definately read the book first! I found this fascinating to watch after reading the book as it showed the real life clips of extracts from the book but also had her ex-boyfriend {wildlife photographer) on a large part of this documentary explaining some of the truths that Dian Fossey intentionally left out of the book. Some of the realities of Dian's personality were shocking too, which this DVD revealed but I won't give anything away as best to watch for yourself.

After reading the book, I watched the DVD and was quite suprised at the extra amount of information in the film. The book was what Dian Fossey wanted the world to know, mainly about the plight of the gorrilas, their lives, the danger they were in etc. The DVD was other peoples views on Dian, And some of the often bizarre anticts she got up to, to protect the creatures she loved. Well worth a look.
