Format:Audio CD
There are some albums you buy for the sake of a couple of songs and there are some albums that are solid. This is one of the latter. One of those you can listen to many times. These songs all suit Joan Baez's strong, powerful voice and they are very well arranged. She brings life to old songs in a way that make them feel like new songs rather than covers. I don't normally buy live albums, because of the background noice and the untimely whistles from the audience, but here the audience is an asset and adds to the ambience. It was recorded in a bullring in Bilbao in 1988. There are moments on this album when I get chills down my back, every time I hear them. "Ellan danzan solas" brings on quite a few in fact.

Music from the heart!

In 1989 and at the age of 18 I had the wonderful pleasure to listen to Joan Baez for the first time with this album, not knowing that she has been a great artits since before I was born. I totally felt in love with her voice. This was the first, but not the last time I listen to her. With this album I started my love for her music, her ideas and her voice. "Famous Blue Raincoat" is one of my favorites and the song in Catalan, even without knowlegde of the language can make you cry."Sweet Low, Sweet Chariot" is one of the best exaples of ther greatness of voice. If you are looking for a glimpse of her great performance this is the one,but I warn you: you'll want more and more.....

I actually found this album while studying in Barcelona, so it was great to hear the songs in Spanish. I grew up with From Every Stage, so my 4 stars instead of 5 are biased since I like that album better. Also, I sort of thought it was funny hearing her sing a Bob Marley song... Joan Baez reggae?! It's not too bad, just... a bit odd.
She did make a mistake though -- 'Txoria Txori' is NOT in Catalan... it is in Basque. I knew there was a reason I couldn't understand a word of it after living in Catalunya for a couple months!
Overall, a very cool and different album by one of my favorite singers.
