Product Description

Growing up in a rural recording studio, Halo Llewellyn is rarely star-struck, but when one of the visiting singers gives birth to Fred, she knows right away that he's special. As the golden child grows into the gilded man, she remains dazzled by his ambition and his talent.Up on stage, being screamed at by hundreds of teenage girls, Fred will always turn his spotlight on Halo in the crowd. But that's the problem with falling in love with your charismatic almost-brother - it can never be a secret. In the end, the whole world has to know.

A beautiful book 14 Feb 2010
By MP
Format:Paperback
Where 'Happy Accidents' takes you by sudden surprise and jolts you into laughter or tears, 'Diamond Star Halo', still routed in the counryside of smells, sounds and mud, is subtle and engaging. Tiffany Murray elegantly covers a vast canvass treating her readers to a treasure-trove of tender and engaging insights into the contemporary humuan condition. It is a lovely read.

From the opening lines "The one thing my family can agree on - and what I can swear is true - is that Fred Connor came to us, we, the Llewelyns of Rockfarm, in the parched summer of 1977" I was hooked.

This book is a combination of things: a coming of age story, a family saga, a look at our recent history, a twisted romance. And Halo Llewelyn takes us on a journey through it all, introducing her music 'producer' father, her mother the beautiful and enigmatic in-house cook, her younger sister who as she grows up outpaces Halo in the rush towards everything adult, and her cross dressing brother Vince who wants to live like a pop star.

My favourite character is Nana: a straight talking, sturdy women with the most fantastic sayings, and a potion to cure all evils.

When baby Fred enters the family's lives, the future is changed and Diamond Star Halo chronicles that future, explains the past, and makes us laugh and cry along the way.

One of my favourite books!!
